The start of the new year means #NewYearNewMe for a lot of folks.  For us foodies, common new year’s resolutions are vows to cook more, eat out less and of course eat healthier.  With those pledges our favorite food spots get dumped at the start of the year and we only come back once our resolutions are forgotten.  Keeping this in mind, the good folks over at Hopdoddy invited me to come back out and try the other side of their menu, the healthy side!

The Details

I have been to Hopdoddy before and blogged about it so I will not go into all of those details again.  Since my last visit,  they announced plans to open the new Houston location over in Rice Village.  This location will probably be bigger and will likely help with the lines at the River Oaks location.  On this day though, as a media guest I got to cut the line!  I walked up in Hopdoddy like I was Sherman Hemsley.

The Food

Like I said we were here for the healthy stuff and could NOT be tempted by anything else.   Okay I’m lying, I refused to give up those parmesan truffle fries!  That small infraction aside, we did order the healthy entrees and were VERY pleased.

My sister happened to be on a no meat diet during our visit so she ordered La Bandita, a black bean- corn patty topped with avocado, goat cheese, arugula, cilantro pesto, chipotle may, onion and tomato, all on a whole wheat bun.  Then the chef came out and offered her some jalapeños to give this dish a kick.  In her opinion, the burger got it’s flavor from all of the toppings.  Despite being meatless it was very filling.

For me, I ordered the turkey burger, the Continental Club.  This is a popular menu option as of late, but you will notice a lot of places do not provide the adequate amount of flavor to the dish!  Thankfully, Hopdoddy got it right and piled on the flavor within the turkey patty and then added more kick with the toppings including bacon and basil pesto.  If you want an even better option, you should of course remove the bacon.   I also really liked the wheat bun despite generally not being a fan.

Overall

So these are just the dishes that we ordered, but there were plenty to pick from besides your typical burger.  They had several salad options plus ahi tuna, lamb and chicken sandwiches.  In short, if Hopdoddy is a favorite of yours, you can still keep them on the new list while you are getting your body right for Spring.
