Where to Eat in Houston Before Renaissance

So, I went to see Beyonce in Toronto in July.   And about halfway through that concert I knew that as a Houstonian, I was going to have to make sure that I was in the building for the Houston show as well.  Now, I have yet to secure my tickets, because these prices are highway robbery ($600 for the 600 level!).  We know this is partly because many out-of-towners decided that Houston would be the best place to see Bey as this is her hometown.  Heavy sigh, we need an ID check at the door!  Over the last few weeks, [...]

Juneteenth Sites in Houston and Galveston

Let's talk Juneteenth, specifically the Juneteenth Sites in Houston and Galveston.  Last year, Juneteenth became a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Africans.   This nation continues to struggle with its original sin, the forced enslavement of Africans for over 200 years and the impact this undoubtedly has on the descendents.  If you doubt this, just take a peek at the brutal backlash the NYT 1619 project received because they dared to say the systems which built this country on the backs of enslaved Africans may still exist in some form today.  Considering that reconstruction never fully happened, Jim [...]

Vibe Dining

Yesterday two friends tossed a term out to me called “Vibe Dining” to describe the current Houston food scene including (but not limited to) many of the new Black owned restaurants.  I immediately latched on to it because it was the perfect way to describe what I was seeing across Houston.  Beautiful new restaurants popping up with carefully curated vibes that draw large crowds plus are Instagram friendly, yet they leave a bit to be desired for a foodie like me.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the vibe dining trend. How Did We Get Here Now listen, [...]

So I skipped October... my bad y'all! 10 Houston Restaurants to Visit in August 2021

Black Girls Who Brunch started as a restaurant review blog with me churning out a few reviews every month, mainly focusing on new restaurants around town.  Well this year, you may have noticed that I have not done those as much even though I have still be dining at new places.  Instagram seems to be getting most of that content which is not really my preference, but  over these six years I have also noticed that a single review blog post never does as well as a list blog post.  Since I am all about saving time and also providing [...]

Why is Everyone Visiting Houston?

Let me start with two things about me.  The first is, I love to travel, domestic and international.  The second is that I LOVE my hometown of Houston, heck I basically dedicated a whole blog to it.  I truly cannot see myself living anywhere else.  I love the culture of Houston, the diversity, the size, the people, the opportunities and so much more.  Well when you combine these two things, one would think I would get the appeal for tourists visiting my hometown.  Well... I am still a bit confused as are many other Houstonians.  We really are asking ourselves... [...]

Black Owned Houston Nightlife

Listen folks, we are in the midst of the new roaring 20s, hot girls summers, vaxxed and outchea'!  As a Houstonian I have been thoroughly enjoying what my city has to offer this year and noticing a lot of new fun places that happen to be black owned.  A friend of my encapsulated this moment so well, stating that Houston is undergoing a Black Renaissance!  While there are still struggles within the city such as genetrication, flooding, and necessary progressive reforms, in many ways Houston is booming floating on population growth.   For me, a lot of the fun and excitement [...]

Hey friends! If you are an Instagram follower you know that I try to share links to my favorite tools, gadgets and deals. From my air fryer to my dining room table.  Unfortunately that platform does not allow you to save links in an easy way, so I have created a new post for all of my favorite things! These are all affiliate links which basically means when you click on the link the retailer will know that I sent you there and give me a percentage of the sales.  This costs you nothing, but it is a great way [...]
