Breakfast Brunch Cafe in Cypress

Yes, you read that right, Breakfast Brunch Cafe IN "Cypress."  I actually ventured past the loop to try a brunch/breakfast spot out in the suburb.   Of course there is a backstory!  So I grew up in Cypress which is partly why I have a love/hate relationship with it.  My parents still love it and as retirees spend much of their time trying new spots.  A couple of months ago my parents RAVED to me about a new black owned breakfast spot out by them.   "Oh you must try it!" they told me.  My response of course was, I [...]

Dinner at La Table

Last weekend I met up with my foodie crew for a last minute dinner on a Friday night.  So here is how the planning went. At about noon we realized that we were ALL free that evening and since that never happens we scrambled to find a spot suitable for dinner. I of course advocated for some new spots which turned out to be the "hottest seats in town." We headed to Opentable and searched based on availability (#foodietip).  From there we landed on La Table, the galleria reincarnation that has been around for a few years.  Dinner at La Table [...]

Brunchin’ with Black Girls Who Brunch

I am so excited to share with you all, that I have officially planned my first brunch event, Brunchin' with Black Girls Who Brunch! With a name like Black Girls Who Brunch many folks have assumed that I host events.  The look of disappointment every time I said "no, I just brunch"  got me to thinking.   I put the idea in the back of mind as something I should do sooner than later.   The problem though was planning an event required me to step out of my comfort zone to create an opportunity for BGWB!  Funny thing is [...]

Pistachio Frozen Custard

*Sticks pinky toe outside* it is officially summer in Houston therefore it is appropriate for me to bust out another frozen custard recipe!  After visiting Cafe Azur and Peli Peli I became obsessed with pistachio ice cream! Prior to visiting these local restaurants, I did not trust green ice cream so I avoided it.  I felt like Mikey from the old Life cereal commercials, because after trying it I actually liked it.  When I try random things out, it makes me want to go home and try to make it on my own to suit my tastebuds and pickiness (See here [...]

FM Kitchen + Bar

Houston foodies collectively mourned the closure of Triniti late last year.  Those tears were quickly calmed once the masterminds behind Triniti announced that they would be opening a new concept, FM Kitchen + Bar near the Washington Corridor before Summer 2017!  This past week, I had the privilege of visiting FM Kitchen + Bar before the grand opening.  Check out my experience below! The Setup FM Kitchen is located at Shepherd and Washington right behind the original Max's Wine Dive.  Somehow they managed to nab a location with a parking lot.  That alone will keep folks coming in!  From the parking [...]

#GirlsNightOut Unicorn Edition

A few weeks back I traveled to a magical place where unicorns roam, women of all colors and creeds can gather for fun AND hopefully calories do not count.  Where is this magical place you ask?  It's curated by Erin, the creator of Ms. Independent.  Every so often, Ms. Independent hosts a fabulous event called #GirlsNightOut.  I had the pleasure of attending Erin's latest event, #GirlsNightOut Unicorn Edition! The Setup Attendees, pay about $30 for tickets to the event.  These events are typically hosted at some fabulous Houston high rise.  The Unicorn Edition was no different!  Guests joined the party [...]

Brunching in Kansas City

You may have noticed I go to Kansas City, MISSOURI (not Kansas) often.  I was born there, have family there and went to college nearby.   Recently, I spent a few days in KCMO to celebrate my cousin's birthday.  My trips to KC are usually filled with family dinners and stopping by my favorite KC restaurants like Gates.  I try my best to squeeze in some new spots when I go for the sake of the blog though.   On the off chance that your life ever randomly takes you to Kansas City, I want you to be fully prepared [...]

KURIOS at Peli Peli

I entered the food blogger scene about two years ago and during that time I have attended tons of events hosted by South African restaurant Peli Peli.  From popups, tv show premieres to tastings at Peli Peli Kitchen and Peli Deli.  Somehow I managed to never stop by Peli Peli in the Galleria mall despite even having gift cards to use for a visit!  Well, I finally joined the in crowd and visited Peli Peli last week to preview their Cirque Du Soleil, KURIOS at Peli Peli Menu! The Setup Peli Peli is growing faster than I can keep up.  The [...]

Cinco de Mayo at Molina’s Cantina!

Just in time for Cinco De Mayo, I am recapping my visit to Molina's with my Houston Food Blogger Collective friends!  I grew up in Houston and thought I had visited all of the Houston Tex Mex staples, but somehow I missed Molina's!  Prior to our event I learned that Molina's has been a family run business in the Houston area for 76 years.  Staying in business that long in a city like Houston where the restaurant landscape is constantly changing deserves praise in and of itself.  With this in mind I was eager to see what Molina's was all about! The [...]

Happy Hour At Sambuca

We are all internet friends right? So I can be honest with you here.  Here is the truth, a couple of years ago I went to Sambuca with my foodie group and HATED it. The food, the service, everything.   I found my way back there a year or so later and thought it was better, but still no cigar.  I kept these experiences in mind when Houston Food Blogger Collective received the invite for Happy Hour at Sambuca. Look, I'm all for second chances when it come to restaurants.  Matter fact, it was a second chance that led me to fall [...]
