Essence Festival 2022

After a three year break (two years because of the rona!), I got to go back to Essence Festival and let me just say per usual it did not disappoint.   This is my third time visiting New Orleans for Essence and I have written at length about my trips in previous blog posts.  One may think, what else could she have to say?!  So much more!  Since my last visit to Essence Fest, the organizers made some small changes that really made the event all the better.  So here is my reap of Essence Festival 2022. Events For the most [...]

Jazz Brunch at Restaurant R’evolution

It should be no surprise that I HAD to find a brunch spot while in New Orleans for Essence Fest.  We settled on the Jazz Brunch at Restaurant R'evolution.  This restaurant is housed in the Royal Sonesta which sits prominently on Bourbon street in the heart of the French Quarter! So on top of having the perfect location, the other elements of the Jazz Brunch at Restaurant R'evolution are perfection! The Drinks We started the morning with a round of Pimm's Cups.  This cocktail includes gin, liqueur, fruit juices and a bit of spice that gives it a kick.  Before [...]

Prepping for Essence Festival 2018

I am watching Girls Trip for the second time this weekend as I prepare for Essence Festival 2018.  My group chats are popping and I have begun the outfit sorting process.  In short I canNOT wait!  Despite having a pretty detailed breakdown of tips in my recap from last year, I decided to drop a few more gems in this Prepping for Essence Festival 2018 post! Get the Essence Fest App Have you downloaded the Essence Festival app? Looks like they scrapped the one from 2017 and started over.  Quite frankly, this new one is MUCH better than last year.  [...]

Cochon New Orleans

As promised, I am back with a few other highlights from New Orleans ! While we spent quite a bit of time at the official Essence Festival events, we did make a few escapes to local restaurants.  One spot that had been on my list for awhile was Cochon New Orleans !  So I gathered with a few foodie friends from Houston and we dined at the highly rated restaurant which focuses on cajun pork inspired dishes! So please enjoy my review of Cochon New Orleans! The Location and Setup Cochon operates two restaurants, the more casual Cochon Butcher and [...]

10 Takeaways From Essence Festival

I am a week removed from my first trip to New Orleans for Essence Festival and I am still recovering.  Y'all, Essence Festival was EVERYTHING!  This annual festival is hosted by Essence Magazine in New Orleans the weekend of July 4th every year.  The festival celebrates African American culture through music, speakers, food and art.  I am always on time for a celebration of US, so I finally made the trek to New Orleans for this amazing three day event.  As a first timer, I learned SO much that I have to share, so I created my list of 10 [...]

THIRTY

Despite my best efforts to stay in my twenties FOREVER, last month I officially turned the BIG 3-0.  My friend gave me a card that described my turning thirty process perfectly.  First, shock.  "This literally cannot be happening! I just turned twenty last week!"  Second, anger.  I snapped at a few folks who tried to label me as "old."  Then there was denial.  Yes, I refused to believe that thirty was upon me and continued to live in a space of twenty-nine and youth.  Finally, I reached a point of acceptance and said "ya know... I'm 30, but I still [...]

Foodie Travels: New Orleans

I made my first trip to New Orleans earlier this spring for a work conference. It is kind of surprising that it was my first trip considering that Nawlins combines two of my favorite things, History and Food! Remember I was there for a work event, so put aside the liquor aspect of New Orleans for a moment. Here are the food places I got to try during my short visit for a conference. I plan to go back soon just to indulge in more food, history and perhaps the Bourbon Street side of things. Café Du Monde Obligatory stop [...]
