Weekend in New York City

At eighteen years old my older sister flew me out to New York City so I could experience the Big Apple before I started college a few weeks later.   It was one of my favorite trips EVER especially at 18 years old with no passport and few vacations under my belt.   Fast forward another eighteen years, and my sister suggested that we meet up in New York City for the Stranger Things Experience.   Y'all know if I have airline points and my PTO lines up, it is hard for me to say no to a trip! So I said yes, [...]

Where Black People Live in Houston

Let's talk about Where Black People Live in Houston.  Years ago I created a neighborhood guide with the intended audience being fellow Houstonians or recent transplants.  I never finished part two (my fault), but part one showed my favorite spots in some of the quintessential neighborhoods in Houston.  Google searches are interesting particularly with my blog including the word "Black" in it.  As such, black people who were looking to move to Houston found my blog when trying to find the best neighborhoods for Black families.  So I started getting emails asking me "where should I live" and whew THE [...]

Visiting Shreveport-Bossier for Mardi Gras

A few weeks back I accepted an invite from Visit Shreveport - Bossier to visit their area for Mardi Gras weekend.  I am always down to visit a new city so I excitedly accepted the offer.  While I was familiar with elements of Mardi Gras, I was not too familiar with Shreveport-Bossier, but entered this trip with a blank slate open to see what the area had to offer.  Through the weekend, I got a taste of so many elements of the city and had a great time.  Here is a recap of Visiting Shreveport-Bossier for Mardi Gras! Mardi Gras [...]

Guide to Mexico City

Hey friends!  Mexico City has been top of my travel wish list for many years and thankfully it was on my sister's too.   She's been studying Spanish and really wanted an opportunity to test out her skills.  I of course was along for the food and culture.  With both of us aligned on the destination, we booked our trip to Mexico City for mid January flying AeroMexico.   It was a short weekend trip so we did not get to see it all.  I do however intend on going back soon, but in the meantime here is my Guide to Mexico [...]

Weekend in Phoenix

I turned 35 last month and decided that reaching my mid-thirties deserved something more than the typical dinner in Houston.  With 2020 a not too distant memory, I decided to search for a domestic location for a weekend trip to celebrate.  I wanted to visit a new city and one that leaned more "rest & relaxation" because I am 35 after all!  Somehow my sister and I settled on Phoenix.  We both had heard about the spas and food, so we decided to spend a Weekend in Phoenix. What to See/Do A few things to keep in mind about my [...]

Weekend in Chicago

Forgive me friends, it has been a few months but I am finally getting around to sharing the details of my trip to Chicago!  I attended college in Missouri so as you can imagine many of my classmates came from neighboring Illinois.  As such, I have made quite a few visits over the years and have some great friends who call Chicago home.  This spring I spent the weekend in Chicago with my best friend and we ate at ALL the good places in Chicago.  While this post is late, it still includes so many great places that I think [...]

Savannah Day Trip

Going back to Charleston for a week meant that I would have time to hit up some other places on that side of the country.  So many people told me that if I loved Charleston, I would also love Savannah.   With a two hour car ride between the two cities, we rented a minivan and made the short trip over to Savannah to see what this Southern city had to offer.  It was a short visit, but I wanted to be sure to recap my Savannah Day Trip What to See We booked this trip about a month before leaving [...]

Back to Charleston

Writing blog posts ain't as easy as it used to be folks! But I had to come and share with you all of the great places I ate and visited on my return visit to Charleston, South Carolina.  After getting my second vaccy dose, I decided that I needed a week vacation in a domestic location.  I loved Charleston so much the first time, so I picked it again.  So Back to Charleston I went with a group of friends and family in tow. Much of my trip was similar to my last visit, so please be sure to check out [...]

Weekend in Beaumont Texas

So hear me out.  I spent the weekend in Beaumont, Texas.   On purpose.  AND had an amazing time!  Most Houstonians know about Beaumont, it's the smaller city to the east of us that we pass on our way to Louisiana.  I honestly had never stopped in Beaumont or even thought about it.   So when the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau invited me to come explore the city I jumped at the chance to see what the city has to offer.  From the food to the attractions, Beaumont really has a lot of great stuff! Check out my recap of my [...]

Guide to Lake Tahoe

Life got a little busy for me and I had not been able to finish the recap of my Reno/Tahoe trip! Reno was great, but Tahoe was next level!  I have never considered myself much of an outdoorsy person so I did not know what to expect from Tahoe.  I mean there is a lake and mountains, so I expected my visit to be all about the outdoors.   Once again our guides curated experiences for us that fit our needs.  For me, that meant a trip to North Tahoe where I got to experience great food, views and experiences.  Check [...]
