Houston Restaurants to Visit this Fall

Instagram has had my attention lately and I looked up and hadn't updated my website in over a month!  Time to fix that and share a few places I've visited over the last several months and enjoyed.  Here are some Houston Restaurants to Visit this Fall . Bungalow Houston's latest Black owned restaurant in downtown Houston should be on your list for the fall.  They are still within their soft opening period so give them some grace, but even with that caveat I'd say the restaurant is excellent.  The food, atmosphere, service and drinks were excellent.  I enjoyed everything I [...]

2022 Favorite Brunches

Apologies, it's been sometime since I've done a favorite brunch list.  I have my reasons though.  There is a lot of pressure to pick favorites and I always feel like I am forgetting one.  Then add to that my brunching activities were pretty non-existent the last few years given all that has gone on in the world.  But as I've started getting out more, I've found myself wanting my own list of solid brunch places to visit.   So here is my 2022 Favorite Brunches list,  I will update it as I encounter more. Let me also manage expectations, this list [...]

10 Houston Restaurants to Visit in November 2021

So I skipped October... my bad y'all! But in my defense, I had a lot going on.  Between Houston Hosts, some travel and changes in work I could not even think about drafting a new blog post.  But I figured between the August and September lists you guys had a lot of option to keep you busy.   While I was pretty absent from this platform in October, I was still out trying new restaurants and finding more great places to share.  Here are 10 Houston Restaurants to Visit in November 2021. Cultivated F+B at the Lancaster I have fond memories [...]

Weekend in Chicago

Forgive me friends, it has been a few months but I am finally getting around to sharing the details of my trip to Chicago!  I attended college in Missouri so as you can imagine many of my classmates came from neighboring Illinois.  As such, I have made quite a few visits over the years and have some great friends who call Chicago home.  This spring I spent the weekend in Chicago with my best friend and we ate at ALL the good places in Chicago.  While this post is late, it still includes so many great places that I think [...]

Savoir Houston

Before the world shut down, I attended a work Christmas dinner at Savoir Houston over in the Heights.  I was super impressed with the food, service, the restaurant and the cute bar next door.   My plan was to come back and take photos in the daylight for a blog post.  Well here we are, over a year later, but I finally made it back for a socially distant brunch with a friend.  I gotta say Savoir Houston may be the best brunch in town that you just did not know about. The Setup During my visit in 2019, I recalled [...]

Morning Glory San Diego

Last month I shared nothing on this platform.  This was the first time since I created my blog that I let a month go by without putting fingers to my keyboard and sharing a new recipe, restaurant experience or travel.  I spent much of last month consumed with the Presidential election.  Sharing important news updates on my Instagram page, encouraging people to vote and even serving as a poll worker on election day.  After election day I jetted to San Diego with my sister for a much needed getaway.  We did not do much on this short trip that warrants [...]

Brennan’s of Houston

As I share my latest restaurant review a few things come to mind.  First, whewww this feels weird?! It's been so long.  Second, I feel the need to justify my outings to those who I know disagree.   While there are a series of new restaurant reviews on my page, my outings still remain few and far between with me mainly dining at home with takeout or home cooked meals.   Of the four-five times I've dined inside, I made a point to pick places where the experience could not be replicated at home.  Brennan's of Houston s the epitome of a [...]

Brunch at Trez Art and Wine

Whew! It feels weird to be writing a restaurant post.  As many of us have, I scaled back dining inside of restaurants due to current conditions.  Instead, I provide my support through takeout and of course sharing on my social media.  This has worked for some time, but let's be real, brunch is different!  Part of what makes brunch so good are the vibes and people that come along with it.  SO for Black Restaurant Week I decided to venture out with a few blogger friends to Trez Art and Wine.  Here is my review, enjoy!  The Vibe Trez Art [...]

24 Pancake Recipes to Make Instead of Aunt Jemima

Last week Quaker announced that they were doing away with the name and image of their Aunt Jemima brand.  Founded in 1889, from the beginning Aunt Jemima played on imagery from minstrel shows and the mammy figure, a stereotypical portrayal of a Black woman (think Gone with the Wind). Over the last hundred years or so, societal norms have changed and Aunt Jemima, now part of the Quaker Companies, continued to reckon with it’s own history and imagery.  Rather than removing the name or character of Aunt Jemima, Quaker instead remixed her a couple of times, slimming her down and [...]

Postino’s Brunch

My brunch game has been weak this year, not going to lie!  When the folks over at Postino invited me out to try to the brunch menu, I jumped at the chance to do some much needed catching up.  I have visited Postino before (check out the recap here if you missed that), but for happy hour not brunch.  I typically do not write two blogs about the same restaurant, but the brunch was so good it deserved its own write up!  Get in to Postino's Brunch. The Drinks At its core, Postino is a wine bar so of COURSE [...]
