Seaside Poke

Poke, (pronounced po-kay) is all the rage and I for one am all about a food trend!  For the most part, high end restaurants have held the market on the poke trend which means it can be a budget buster.  Well to my budget conscious foodies, a new option poke bowl option, Seaside Poke just opened in EADO.  Check out my experience below! The Setup and Location Located in EADO next door to Chapman and Kirby, Seaside Poke is getting in game early.  In a matter of months that whole area will be filled with more restaurants, bars and businesses. Part [...]

Chapman and Kirby

A few weeks back it seemed like 90% of my non-blogger snapchat friends were all at some new spot called Chapman and Kirby.  It was packed, the party looked funny and somehow my invite was lost in the mail!  I did some investigation and learned that Chapman and Kirby was a new bar in Houston's EADO (East Downtown).  I made a note to come to visit at my next opportunity and report back here for others who were late like me! The Setup/Location Chapman and Kirby is anchoring the revitalization of East Downtown a former industrial area.  If you have [...]

Pineapple Mule

*This is a sponsored post, but please trust that the opinions listed below are my own!* Summer is my FAVORITE season.  Yes it is hot as hades in Houston, but summer brings out the best events, food and longer days to pack more fun in.   For my family, summer means my dad will be hopping on the grill and my sister and I will head out to Cypress to chill on the deck while eating some good food.  This summer, we have stepped it up a notch with some fun summer drinks to sip while chillaxing on the deck!  [...]

Crumbville, TX

The corner of Emancipation Avenue and Elgin is booming y'all!  First, local leaders rightfully ditched the street name Dowling (named after a Confederate solider) and renamed it the more progressive name Emancipation Avenue. Yay for change!  Then, the Emancipation Park renovations were completed just in time for this year's Juneteenth celebrations! I have not toured it yet, but the pictures look amazing! All of these things are exciting and have brought national media attention to Houston's Historic Third Ward.   What I hope though, are some of the cool business operating in this area get some attention too.  I have [...]

Velvet Taco

Back with a taco post ahead of Taco Tuesday so you can prepare accordingly! Velvet Taco has been on my "need to try" list for a long time, but I tend to circle back to places I like such as Torchy's rather than trying something new.   A couple of Fridays ago I was not in the mood to fight the Rice Village traffic, so that meant giving Velvet Taco a try.  I grabbed a co-worker and we headed out for our first trip to the popular taco spot, Velvet Taco! The Setup/Location Taco Heaven! Velvet Taco is [...]

It's my birthday week! *Pauses for enthusiasm*  Everyone knows, the best way to celebrate ME is with food!  For my work birthday lunch we decided to try the Phil & Derek's lunch buffet! Most folks are aware of Phil & Derek's popular brunch buffet, but let me tell you lunch is a great time to go as well.  Follow along for all the tea on my lunch time experience! The Setup Earlier this year Phil and Derek's moved from the Kirby area to a larger space in Midtown with ample parking! This  central location makes it super convenient for a [...]

Protect Yo Stuff!

I have shared before that outside of this blogger world I am an attorney.  During law school, I took ONE Intellectual Property class and decided that was not my thing.   Never did I think some years later I would be removing the cobwebs to try to recall the key things I "learned" in that class.  This blogger world though? It is a giant Intellectual Property minefield where it is important you not only know your rights, but you enforce them as well.  So this is a little blog post about why you should "Protect Yo Stuff!" Let me preface [...]

Dinner at Kitchen 713

Whew! Let's get back to the business of restaurant reviews shall we? While I worked on my event, I still tried some new places that I want to share with you!  Last week, I revisited Kitchen 713 for a tasting of their new menu items including dinner items and cocktails!  Now, I do not typically post on a restaurant several times, but considering that Kitchen 713 is in a new location and my last post was about brunch, I figured this deserved some attention.  For all of the details about setup and location check out my last post.  To get a [...]

BGWB Event Recap!

I am still floating from yesterday! My brunch event, Brunchin' with Black Girls Who Brunch went SO well.  Here is a quick recap.  After much encouragement, on June 10th I hosted my very first brunch event at Harold's in the Heights!  Myself and 39 other ladies met/networked, sipped mimosas, had a photoshoot and dined on good food!  Here are all the dets from the brunch! My Outfit *Puts on fashion blogger hat for two seconds*  I loved my outfit! I stepped out of my norm and went for the princess look. The shirt of course was a Black Girls Who [...]

Houston Birthday Dinner Spots

As a food blogger, there are two questions I get the most 1) where would you recommend that I brunch? and 2) It's my birthday! I need a nice dinner spot. HELP!  Well, I think I have sufficiently answered question number one with countless brunch lists and reviews (Check here for that).  For the second one, I guess my dinner section did not give folks clear options, so here comes the list!  June just so happens to be my birthday month so it is only fitting that I roll out a list of Houston Birthday Dinner spots to host your birthday [...]
