BGWB Buttercream Recipe

On a rare occasion, the cooking spirit comes over me I run to my kitchen to whip up something new or play around with old recipes.  Years ago I perfected a homemade buttercream that I have been making ever since.  I literally will buy a box cake and throw my own buttercream with it!  On this occasion I just wanted the buttercream, dats it.  But I quickly realized that a dish created from butter and sugar only looks good when it's on a cake! So I was forced to create the whole shebang for the sake of this blog.  My [...]

Etta’s at Bar 5015

So, you may have noticed that I included Etta's at Bar 5015 on my most recent brunch list.   Well here is thing, I actually had not been there yet!  I honestly included it based on reputation and my previous experiences with Etta's!  But I felt like a poser, and that ain't me!  Last weekend, I finally gathered a group and we visited Etta's at Bar 5015 to see what the hype was about. Setup/Location Here is the important thing I want to be clear on, this is a PARTY.  This is not a brunch restaurant where you sip mimosas [...]

Where to Brunch for Easter in Houston

Next Sunday is Easter Sunday, the holiest day of the year for Christians as we celebrate the resurrection!  As a kid I remember getting dolled up in bright spring colors, having my hair straightened and heading to church to celebrate the holiday.  Once at home, our Easter breakfast and subsequent dinner were usually more elaborate than every other Sunday meal, with a ham or roast and desserts.  Now, we the increased popularity of brunch I imagine my mother would have opted for that instead!  It seems to me that a brunch after Easter service goes hand and in hand.  With that [...]

Elliott's Oyster House Our conference hosts were kind enough to provide a list of Seattle restaurants near the conference hotel.  By day two we were all craving some seafood. [...]

French Riviera Bakery and Cafe

Guesssss what?! I found my very own authentic French cafe, French Rivera Bakery and Cafe, right here in Houston!  Well okay, I did not find it.  Several friends and fellow bloggers had encouraged me to stop by for some true French pastries right in my "backyard."  I finally made it by a few weekends ago for a quick breakfast.  Here is a quick post sharing my experience. The Setup Apparently the current location is an upgrade from a previous spot the restaurant occupied for decades.  The newer digs has it's own parking lot which is great, but let me tell [...]
