Birthday Brunch!

To celebrate my birthday, I invited several friends out to a Saturday brunch at Union Kitchen.  As you can imagine, the girls in my life also love a good brunch, so it seemed like the appropriate choice. Of course I had a great time with my girls! Not quite 30, yet but this still seems fitting HAHAHA! The Setup:  Urban Kitchen has several locations in Houston. This location is on Bellaire in a crowded shopping center.  It's right next to Dr. Nowzaradan office. He's the doctor on TLC's show My 600 pound life.  I actually say a film [...]

Foodie Travels: Wahlburgers!

Wahlburgers; Hingham MA One of my favorite things to do in my free time is watch all types of reality tv and I am not afraid to admit it!  While channel surfing one weekend I discovered Wahlburgers, a show about the Wahlbergs' attempt to start a burger chain with their brother who is a chef.   Now as far as reality tv show goes, this show is probably scripted, but I love this show!  I think what keeps me watching is the fact that the Wahlberg family and their bond are truly what the show is about.  So rather than going for [...]

Foodie Travels: Brunch and Lunch in Boston

After indulging in so much sugar during our cupcake tour we asked the hotel concierge for light lunch suggestions.  The concierge suggested Stephanie's on Newbury Street which was thankfully walking distance.  I love a walkable city, my hometown unfortunately is not. We made the scenic walk to Stephanie's with me stopping for pictures at every block.  We went for a table on the large patio allowing me to continue taking in the city and to people watch.  I did not get a chance to venture inside so I cannot speak for the set up in the restaurant. One of the [...]

Foodie Travels: Rhode Island

The Elms My first day in New England was spent wandering around Rhode Island.  For it to be the smallest state, they really seem to have a lot to offer tourists.  Since this is a food blog, let me start with that! For dinner we went to Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island which is their Little Italy.  It's a pretty historic area. Federal Hill in Providence. Can a local please explain the pineapples?? Dinner at Camille's We had dinner at Camille's, an Italian restaurant that has been around for a 100 years. My sister is forever [...]

Foodie Travels: Boston Cupcake Crawl

Can I just say I love Boston! Well Boston in the summer because me and 20 feet of snow would not get along.  Boston is such a beautiful historic city and history will win me over any day.  I spent last weekend in New England, so be prepared for several posts! One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try out the cities local cupcakeries.  In Boston, I took it up a notch by going on a cupcake crawl through Boston. Our tour met up at South End Buttery, a bakery/ cafe type restaurant.  There our [...]

June Foodie Group: Gloria’s Latin Cuisine

For this month's foodie group/birthday celebration for one of my friends, we went to Gloria's Latin Cuisine Restaurant.  Let me start by saying that Tex-Mex is huge in Houston. There are variations of Mexican restaurants and Tex-Mex restaurants literally on every corner here.  With so many options, everyone I know calls a different Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurant their favorite.  Due to so many options, it is hard for a restaurant to stand out to me in this cuisine area.  Many of my friend's call Gloria's their favorite and on my first two visits I really did not understand why.  I reluctantly went [...]

Buc-ee’s A Texas Treasure

On the drive to Austin from Houston one of my must stops is to Buc-ee's right off of 71 highway in Bastrop, Texas.  Do not for a second make the mistake of thinking that this place is JUST a convenience store.    First of it is bigger than most convenience stores, because truly everything is bigger in Texas.  With it's larger size, Buc-ee's is able to go beyond typical convenience store fare of chips and drinks and include a variety of other food options. They have fudge! What store do you know with fudge that they even let you sample? [...]

Traveling Foodie: Austin, Texas

I was in Austin for one night only (* in my Dreamgirls voice*) for an Allen Stone concert. I could not miss the opportunity to indulge in some good Austin treats. Austin is definitely a foodie town. In recent years several Austin imports have made their way to Houston and done really well, like Tiff’s treats, Whole Foods and Torchy’s Tacos. On this visit I stopped at Hopdoddy Burger Place a burger place in Austin that my bestie kept raving about. Inside of HopDoddy. Overall I liked HopDoddy, but I honestly do not like how their ordering process and seating [...]

Diner En Blanc Tips & Review

*This post is part of a Diner En Blanc series! Check out the rest of the series here*  This past Sunday marked Houston's Inaugural Diner En Blanc.  Despite my previous snarky post, I actually had a good time! I am already planning for next year's event and eyeing traveling to another location for the event, like Miami, New Orleans or better yet Paris where it all started.  Here is how it all went. Friday, I picked up my rented tables (more on that mistake later) and coordinated with a friend who picked up rented chairs for us.  Leading up to the [...]

Quick Post: Montrose Coffee Shops

In search of a cute coffee shop to do some work in I stopped over at Common Bond Cafe & Bakery. I have passed it countless times on Westheimer and was drawn to how cute the place looks with the large windows that allow you to view much of the restaurant from the street.  Once inside you see that it lives up to it's street appeal. Pics from inside Common Bond The kitchen closes at 3pm and unfortunately by the time we got there around 5pm on a Sunday most of the bakery items were gone. I was really hoping for [...]
