10 Honeyland Fest Takeaways

Hi. It's me.  A Houstonian foodie here to give you the real about the inaugural Honeyland that went down in Sugar Land, Texas this weekend.  From the beginning, this event caught the attention of foodies like myself.  Promoters initially billed Honeyland as a food and wine festival with music acts, all of which would highlight Black culture.  They even pulled out Marcus Samuelsson for the initial promo calling him the curator of the food, which led me to believe this would be a legit event.  As more about the event came out, it was clear to me that this event [...]

Houston Restaurant Weeks Recommendations

Calling all Houston Foodies, restaurant weeks is upon us!  Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) starts on August 1st and goes through Labor Day Weekend  For those newer to the city, during the month of August, Houston restaurants feature unique menus for brunch, lunch and dinner ranging from $25-55.  These meals are generally two to three courses at some of Houston's best (and often most expensive) restaurants.   The best part?  A portion of the proceeds goes to the Houston Food Bank.   By 2022, HRW had raised $18.8 million dollars for the Houston Food Bank.  Each year people slide into my DMs asking [...]

Houston’s Best Group Dining Spots

What is group dining you ask? A birthday dinner.  Perhaps a baby shower.  A large group dinner just cause.  Heck even a wedding or reception is a possibility at some of these places.  If you want to dine with more than 10 people, have a private or semi-private room with a pre-fixe menu, these are some restaurants to consider with my list of Houston's Best Group Dining Spots. Rather than updating my previous list, it seemed easier to just make a new one.   There are a lot of places that still make the cut offering vibes, great food and accommodating [...]

Dining Solo in Houston

One of my followers dropped me a line on Instagram and asked me if I had a list of places that were great to eat alone.  I actually did not, but my general rule is one person has the question there are likely others that do as well.  Plus it seemed like a good question.  So I decided to get some answers from my BGWB Instagram followers plus add a few places of my own.  A few restaurants were suggested by several of my Houston followers so it seemed like a great list to share on my blog.   Here are [...]

KP Kitchen

When you move to a new area in Houston, one of the first things you should do is find a good neighborhood restaurant.  Preferably locally owned with locally sourced food.  You know the kind where the owner is always present wandering about greeting guests and helping staff.  KP Kitchen is just that for those in the Memorial/City Centre area.  Owner Kerry Paul, aka KP, cut his teeth at Houston favorites like Benjy's, the Classic and Local Foods.  His experience at these great restaurants shines through in the setup of his restaurant, the elegant classic feel and of course the food! I [...]
