A few weeks back I traveled to a magical place where unicorns roam, women of all colors and creeds can gather for fun AND hopefully calories do not count.  Where is this magical place you ask?  It’s curated by Erin, the creator of Ms. Independent.  Every so often, Ms. Independent hosts a fabulous event called #GirlsNightOut.  I had the pleasure of attending Erin’s latest event, #GirlsNightOut Unicorn Edition!

The Setup

Attendees, pay about $30 for tickets to the event.  These events are typically hosted at some fabulous Houston high rise.  The Unicorn Edition was no different!  Guests joined the party at mid-level rooftop at the 2929 Wesleyan high rise.  I found myself looking up at the rest of the building and wondering “what kind of jobs do these folks have?!”  I arrived early so I had some time to stunt for snapchat before the event began.  Once the event started, guests made their way into the 2929 Wesleyan community center to enjoy the festivities.

Once inside, guests checked in and were given fabulous swag bags with great offers like local Milk + Honey.   From there, guests perused vendor booths.  There were clothes vendors and jewelry too.   The event also included a massage section, so guests could receive seated massages.    I am probably missing something because there was SO much packed into this space.

Drinks

The price of admission also included two cocktails prepared by in house bartenders (from Icon Bartenders & Wait Staff).  Best part of this, they totally fit the Unicorn theme!  I ordered the signature fruity cocktail which included a glob of cotton candy.   To know me is to know I LOVE cotton candy so I was all for this.

The Food

Okay so there was food there provided by several vendors and it was good, but I wasn’t there for that.   In the land of unicorns, desserts are supreme!   First up, my fellow HFBC blogger Jordan (Hangry in Houston) made adorable unicorn cake pops.  This tasty little treats were gone pretty quick.  I also nibbled on unicorn cookies (Legally Sweet Treats), truffles (Bonjour Brigadeiro), oreo gems (Crumble and Co) and macarons (Wink by Erica).  There wasn’t a bad dessert in the house!  So good!

The Crowd

As you may have guessed, these events are girls only! No boys allowed! Someone is reading this and saying sounds fun, but that is not my crowd.  Trust me, if you are a woman this is for you!  One of the biggest selling points to me is this event includes women of all races, ages and backgrounds.   I don’t think most shopping malls even pull this many diverse woman on a given weekday.   It is a testament to the type of planner that Erin is and how inviting she is.  Everyone in the crowd was welcoming and mingled seamlessly.  Loved it.

The Takeaway

I definitley went home with a sugar rush from #GirlsNightOut Unicorn Edition and I was totally okay with that!  Beyond that, I had a really good time.  It was great to engage with some women owned businesses in the Houston area and like minded women! I will definitely be back and decided to share my experience on my blog because I figured some of you guys may enjoy these types of events as well.  If you want to learn more, I recommend signing up for Erin’s newsletter here so you do not miss out!
