8 Things from My First US Open

My mother has been a huge tennis fan for as long as I can remember.  A few years ago we talked about making our way to New York for the US Open.  This year was crazy for her from health issues and deciding to retire, so I decided now was the best time to go to the US Open.  We have a large family, so it is super rare that a "family trip" is just the two of us.  We had A BALL.  The US Open lived up to the hype from start to finish.  Here are 8 Things from [...]

Let’s Compare Food Festivals

Over the years I have attended some great food festivals.  Whenever I talk about the major ones that I have gone to, locally in Houston or out of state, people always ask which is the best? I find it hard to pick the absolute best of them, but will say each has elements that make it more appealing than the others.  So for the sake of argument, Let's Compare Food Festivals! Aspen Food & Wine Classic You will have several times to go through the grand pavilion tents with the consumer pass, take your time. The Appeal: Aspen [...]

11 Takeaways from Aspen Food & Wine Classic

If you have been around Black Girls Who Brunch for awhile, you know that I love a good food festival.  I started attending local festivals here in Houston and overtime branched out to others like the Family Reunion and Charleston Wine & Food.  But each time I talked about festivals everyone said, the MOTHA of festivals is the Aspen Food & Wine Classic.  I added it to my bucket list some years ago and cannot believe I finally got to go this year.  A month after the tenth anniversary of my blog and on my birthday weekend!  It was such [...]

Cowboy Carter Weekend

Well let me dust off this blog! I have not posted anything on here this year, because like a lot of content creators I moved away from written content.  HOWEVER, the queen is back in town this weekend, and there is nothing like a good ole list of restaurants and events to attend while in Houston for Cowboy Carter Weekend. Western Themed Restaurants I know many of you are rolling to town decked out in western gear and it should be no surprise that we have quite a few restaurants in Houston that fit that vibe.   Keep in mind that [...]

Black Restaurants to Visit During AfroTech

This week, Houston will host AfroTech, the conference that draws tech companies and Black professionals from around the country.  It is going to be a TIME, full of networking and convening with our community after a crazy few weeks.  And no shade to our fellow Texas city, but I imagine that this version of AfroTech will be much different than it was in Austin, simply because of the thriving Black Houston businesses we have here.  That allows us to have a lot of diversity within our Black businesses especially restaurants.  There is truly something for everyone, you just need to [...]

Toca Madera Houston

It's so rare that I write blog posts.  Honestly it's also probably been years since I've dedicated a blog post to one restaurant, but this one is worth.  On June 18th, the fourth location of Toca Madera opened in Houston and I could not be more excited.  Originally started in Los Angeles, Toca Madera is a high end Mexican steakhouse known for their great food, cocktails, decor and entertainment.  Since opening their first location, they expanded to Scottsdale and Las Vegas.  Somehow, I have been to all of the locations and literally screamed when I heard that the next location [...]

9 Tips for Rodeo Houston

Growing up in Houston, I have been attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since I was a little girl.  From Go Texan Day to the rodeo art contest, the rodeo is such a quintessential part of a Houston upbringing.  As an adult, I still love it and have learned more about all that the rodeo has to offer over the last few years.  The rodeo can be a bit confusing to navigate for out-of- towners or recent transplants.   I've tried to share a bit on Instagram, but there still seems to be questions about how the Rodeo works.  So [...]

Fave Dining Experiences of 2023

As we wrap up 2023, I am reminded of my great dining experiences I had throughout the year.  Many of them right here in Houston where I live, while others happened during my travels.  Some restaurants provided excellent cuisine or unique dishes, while others provided fun atmosphere.  Here is a recap of my Fave Dining Experiences of 2023. Vine - Accra,Ghana Last year, I celebrated the New Year in Accra, Ghana setting the tone for a great year to come! We started out the year with brunch at Vine.  The patio style restaurant had a great fun atmosphere and delicious [...]

10 Honeyland Fest Takeaways

Hi. It's me.  A Houstonian foodie here to give you the real about the inaugural Honeyland that went down in Sugar Land, Texas this weekend.  From the beginning, this event caught the attention of foodies like myself.  Promoters initially billed Honeyland as a food and wine festival with music acts, all of which would highlight Black culture.  They even pulled out Marcus Samuelsson for the initial promo calling him the curator of the food, which led me to believe this would be a legit event.  As more about the event came out, it was clear to me that this event [...]
