Foodie Travels: Belize

The third stop on our cruise was Belize City, Belize!!!  For this port, majority of the crew signed up to go tubing through Belizean caves. I went tubing last summer in Texas and really enjoyed it so I was up for tubing in Belize.    Although I was on vacation, I had to be up at seven so many days to make 8am excursions!  By 8am we were on a 20 minute tender ride to the shore.  I guess the Belizean shore is shallow so the boat anchored pretty far out.  Once on shore, we met with our tour guides [...]

Foodie Travels: Grand Cayman

This is part two of what feels like will be fifty posts about my Carnival Cruise from last week. I am posting out of order, but the first stop our cruise made was to Grand Cayman!  All I knew about this island was that it was the place to go to hide your money oh and they have pretty beaches!  I traveled in a group of seventeen, but we often split up into smaller groups once at port.  For Grand Cayman, myself and three of my cousins went on a Land and Sea Tour of the island.  We were sold [...]

Foodie Travels: Isla Roatan, Honduras

I recently returned from a week long Carnival Cruise to the Caribbean!  I went with 16 members of my family and overall it was a really good time! We got off to a rocky start though, with Hurricane Danny in the Atlantic Ocean.  Then ironically, my name sake Hurricane Erika, almost complicated our return home.  Due to Danny, Carnival changed our itinerary the day before the cruise, sending the planner in me into a tailspin! I spent months researching our previous locations, but now I only had hours to find what to do and see in these places.  It forced [...]

Foodie Travels: Breakfasts in Chicago!

My view of downtown Chicago, from Lake Michigan! Chicago marked the end of a long travel binge! Praise god because I am TIRED! I went to Chicago for my friend's 30th birthday bash. Chicago is definitely a foodie town so I was excited to try some new places during this trip.  Their foodie history is best represented by the Taste of Chicago event.  The taste was going on while I was in town and shockingly I decided not to go.  So many of my Chicagoan friends have said "it's not the same" so we saved our money and time! I [...]

Foodie Travels: An Ode to Kansas City Barbecue

My holiday weekend in Kansas City was all about barbecue.  I literally ate barbecue every day that I was there.  Fresh off the plane from Houston, my sister and I asked my aunt to take us straight to Gates barbecue before we did anything else. Ironically, on our way to Gates we saw a KC barbecue tour bus stopped at another barbecue place, LC's barbecue. So here is the thing about Kanas City, there are A LOT of barbecue places there and everyone has their favorite.  People and the Food Network will name Arthur Bryants', Smokehouse or Joe's Kansas City Barbecue (formerly [...]

Foodie Travels: Kansas City

At least once a year I make the trip to Kansas City, my birthplace and where most of my family still lives (Houston is still home though!)  I was only in town for a few days for the fourth of July but I was eager to try out a new restaurant for brunch while there.   I planned to meet some college friends who live there and wanted somewhere that was unique to Kansas City.  I asked my twitter followers if Kansas City had any "cute brunch" places and one of my friend offered up Char Bar.  It definitely met my expectations! [...]

Foodie Travels: Wahlburgers!

Wahlburgers; Hingham MA One of my favorite things to do in my free time is watch all types of reality tv and I am not afraid to admit it!  While channel surfing one weekend I discovered Wahlburgers, a show about the Wahlbergs' attempt to start a burger chain with their brother who is a chef.   Now as far as reality tv show goes, this show is probably scripted, but I love this show!  I think what keeps me watching is the fact that the Wahlberg family and their bond are truly what the show is about.  So rather than going for [...]

Foodie Travels: Brunch and Lunch in Boston

After indulging in so much sugar during our cupcake tour we asked the hotel concierge for light lunch suggestions.  The concierge suggested Stephanie's on Newbury Street which was thankfully walking distance.  I love a walkable city, my hometown unfortunately is not. We made the scenic walk to Stephanie's with me stopping for pictures at every block.  We went for a table on the large patio allowing me to continue taking in the city and to people watch.  I did not get a chance to venture inside so I cannot speak for the set up in the restaurant. One of the [...]

Foodie Travels: Rhode Island

The Elms My first day in New England was spent wandering around Rhode Island.  For it to be the smallest state, they really seem to have a lot to offer tourists.  Since this is a food blog, let me start with that! For dinner we went to Federal Hill in Providence, Rhode Island which is their Little Italy.  It's a pretty historic area. Federal Hill in Providence. Can a local please explain the pineapples?? Dinner at Camille's We had dinner at Camille's, an Italian restaurant that has been around for a 100 years. My sister is forever [...]

Foodie Travels: Boston Cupcake Crawl

Can I just say I love Boston! Well Boston in the summer because me and 20 feet of snow would not get along.  Boston is such a beautiful historic city and history will win me over any day.  I spent last weekend in New England, so be prepared for several posts! One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to try out the cities local cupcakeries.  In Boston, I took it up a notch by going on a cupcake crawl through Boston. Our tour met up at South End Buttery, a bakery/ cafe type restaurant.  There our [...]
