Houston HAS Culture!

People deride Houston as a city that lacks culture, cuisine or something quintessentially ours that draws tourists to the city, but let me tell you Houston HAS Culture! Many can name our many popular industries such as Oil & Gas or recall the appropriately named Oilers NFL team. But let's be honest, there is nothing sexy about a "Come to Houston!" billboard that boasts our energy industry.  I am forever my hometown's cheerleader, but even I have fallen in with the naysayers a time or two.  This year I made a conscious effort to really discover what Houston has to offer [...]

Tipsy Dessert Bar Festival Review

Friday night I went to the Tipsy Dessert Bar Festival with my family that was in town from Missouri and Dallas!  The festival was hosted by Tipsy Dessert Bar, a company that specializes in alcohol infused ice cream.  The venue for the event was the Silo Live Music Venue. This is one of THE most unique places I have ever been to in Houston.  It's just past downtown on I10 in an area that seems to be transforming from an industrial to residential area.  The Silo Live Music Venue personifies that.  I am not sure what industry it was used for [...]

Taste of the Nation : Eat for a Cause

While at a happy hour last week I learned about a great organization, No Kid Hungry and an exciting annual event they host called Taste of the Nation.  At the meet up, representatives from No Kid Hungry spoke highly of their organization and all the work they do.  It seemed like a worthy cause, so once I made it home I did some more research and found their mission statement: NO CHILD SHOULD GROW UP HUNGRY IN AMERICA. But 1 in 5 children struggles with hunger. Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry campaign is ending childhood hunger in America by [...]

Check out the rest of the series here*  This past Sunday marked Houston's Inaugural Diner En Blanc.  Despite my previous snarky post, I actually had a good time! I am already planning for next year's event and eyeing traveling to another location for the event, like Miami, New Orleans or better yet Paris where it all started.  Here is how it all went. Friday, I picked up my rented tables (more on that mistake later) and coordinated with a friend who picked up rented chairs for us.  Leading up to the [...]

Diner En Blanc: The Preparations

* This post is part of a Diner En Blanc series! Check out all of the posts here*  So last summer while stalking the Instagram pages of the Blood Sweat and Heels cast, I saw several of them attended a pop up dinner. Everyone was dressed in fabulous all white outfits. They brought their own food, alcohol, and table decorations. I was immediately smitten with this idea because I absolutely love experiences that are centered around food or meals with friends.  I just figured I would have to make a trip to NYC to partake.  Welp after browsing on Zagat one afternoon, [...]
