Lunch at Kata Robata

A few weeks back my co-worker and I stopped over at Kata Robata for a Friday lunch out of the office.  Some fellow food bloggers have described Kata Robata's lunch specials as some of the best deals in town and I am all about cheap good food! Additionally, Kata Robata just so happens to be on the Houston Chronicle's "best of Houston" list so all signs pointed to this being a great lunch choice. The dining room The Setup: Kata Robata is right in the thick of Upper Kirby.  There is a parking lot for the shopping center [...]

Buff Burger Review

Buff Burger invited Black Girls Who Brunch to a media event a few weeks back.  I am still new to this blogging stuff so every time an invite lands in my inbox I get really excited! Please trust that I am honest to a fault, therefore the only places I will be mentioning on this here blog are places I actually enjoyed.  I do want to note on posts when I am invited for a media event because my experiences at the event will be different than the average patron.  What should stay the same no matter the occasion is [...]

Brunch at Benjy’s

I am back on my brunch kick! A beautiful sunny day in Houston meant I needed to be on someone's patio for a much needed Sunday Funday brunch! My sister, forever with me on these foodie adventures, selected Benjy's in Rice Village.   For the sake of the blog, I am always down for a new brunch spot and Benjy's is generally ranked as a top pick for Houston brunches.  Somehow this was my first time stopping over for Brunch at Benjy's.   I had a great experience so I am sure it will not be my last. No filter just sun! [...]

Quick Post: Pie Five Pizza Co.

The good folks over at Pie Five Pizza reached out to me to encourage me to try their local restaurants.  I"ll be honest, Pie Five was not on my list of top restaurants to try, matter fact I had never heard of it.  I did a little research and decided it was worth the try. This past weekend, I brought my sister along with the "adventure."  First off, they really could not have a better location.  Right in the loop off of Yale Street in that uniquely suburban shopping center anchored by a Wal-Mart. Everything about the outside facade said [...]

Rico’s Morning + Noon + Night

Scenes from movies really shape my bucket list or random things I intend to try.  Ever since I watched Something Borrowed, I have been dying to replicate the scenes where Ginnifer Goodwin's character (a lawyer like myself) meets her bestie, played by John Krasinski, at Central Park for a workday lunch at Shake Shack! After that movie, I became obsessed with Shake Shack and lunch at a burger joint nestled in a park. (Yes, I have simple things on my bucket list to balance out the extravagant goals) Luckily for me, some brilliant restaurateur brought this concept to Houston!  I [...]

Review of Piada Italian Street Food

A few years back my ancestry.com DNA test surprisingly revealed that among my strong African ancestry, I had a smidgen of Italian ancestry. I am admittedly ridiculous, BUT I took that small percentage and determined that it accounted for my love of Italian food.  Other than spaghetti, I pretty much fall in love with any dish that purports to be Italian cuisine.  Which leads me to my new discovery, Piada: Italian Street Food! I have eyed this place since the "coming soon" sign popped up at the Memorial Shopping Center.  Founded in Ohio, Piada recently opened their first Texas location right [...]

National Food Days List

Since I have been blogging, it seems like EVERY week I am alerted to some National Food Day. My first question was, what greedy person created these days? From my wikipedia browsing research, a wide variety of people have the "authority" to select a day for their preferred food. To my surprise, Presidents of our great country are behind a few for these days. For National Ice Cream Day, Ronald Reagan made a proclamation where he labels Ice Cream nutritious and wholesome therefore worthy adoration on the third Sunday of July.  Oh, I agree Mr. President. For other days, some random organization [...]

National Cheeseburger Day: The SHACK

The Shack is a burger joint out in Cypress, Texas, not to be confused with Shake Shack, another burger place that is near and dear to my heart.  One of my favorite foodie websites listed the Shack as a top patio restaurant in Houston.  This drew my attention because A) it is not in the loop like all of the other places on the list B) while I live closer to heart of Houston, I grew up in Cypress but had never heard of this place and C) how was this place prospering in the land of franchise restaurants?  My [...]

Houston Restaurant Weeks Wrap Up: III Forks

Several weeks back I went to III Forks on the last weekend of Houston Restaurant Weeks.  If you recall from my first Houston Restaurants Weeks post, this was one of my favorite places from 2014's Houston Restaurant Weeks. Great service, great portion sizes and great food.  My foodie group and I decided to ring in one members' birthday month with a trip to III Forks. Setup: III Forks is in the Houston Pavilions in downtown Houston.  Downtown Houston is not ideal for any restaurant in my opinion.  This city's downtown goes to sleep after five pm on weekdays and for most [...]

Back at B&B Butchers!

I made it back to B&B Butcher's before Houston Restaurant Week ended as promised.  Frankly, B&B Butchers is a budget buster (say that three times fast), SO I needed the budget friendly Restaurants Week menu to indulge once again.  This time, my sister, mother and I went on a Sunday for lunch.  I will just touch on what was different about this experience.  For my full review, check out my last post. Service On my last visit, I was treated to a tasting menu with the Houston Food Bloggers Collective.  The service was impeccable, but they of course knew that [...]
