National Food Days List

Since I have been blogging, it seems like EVERY week I am alerted to some National Food Day. My first question was, what greedy person created these days? From my wikipedia browsing research, a wide variety of people have the "authority" to select a day for their preferred food. To my surprise, Presidents of our great country are behind a few for these days. For National Ice Cream Day, Ronald Reagan made a proclamation where he labels Ice Cream nutritious and wholesome therefore worthy adoration on the third Sunday of July.  Oh, I agree Mr. President. For other days, some random organization [...]

National Cheeseburger Day: The SHACK

The Shack is a burger joint out in Cypress, Texas, not to be confused with Shake Shack, another burger place that is near and dear to my heart.  One of my favorite foodie websites listed the Shack as a top patio restaurant in Houston.  This drew my attention because A) it is not in the loop like all of the other places on the list B) while I live closer to heart of Houston, I grew up in Cypress but had never heard of this place and C) how was this place prospering in the land of franchise restaurants?  My [...]

Houston Restaurant Weeks Wrap Up: III Forks

Several weeks back I went to III Forks on the last weekend of Houston Restaurant Weeks.  If you recall from my first Houston Restaurants Weeks post, this was one of my favorite places from 2014's Houston Restaurant Weeks. Great service, great portion sizes and great food.  My foodie group and I decided to ring in one members' birthday month with a trip to III Forks. Setup: III Forks is in the Houston Pavilions in downtown Houston.  Downtown Houston is not ideal for any restaurant in my opinion.  This city's downtown goes to sleep after five pm on weekdays and for most [...]

Back at B&B Butchers!

I made it back to B&B Butcher's before Houston Restaurant Week ended as promised.  Frankly, B&B Butchers is a budget buster (say that three times fast), SO I needed the budget friendly Restaurants Week menu to indulge once again.  This time, my sister, mother and I went on a Sunday for lunch.  I will just touch on what was different about this experience.  For my full review, check out my last post. Service On my last visit, I was treated to a tasting menu with the Houston Food Bloggers Collective.  The service was impeccable, but they of course knew that [...]

Quick Post: The Waffle Bus

I have been blogging steadily for about three months and somehow this is my first post about a Houston Food Truck! (Check out my post about Dallas Food Trucks here).  Kind of surprising since I love food trucks.  My job opens its' doors to several food trucks daily during the lunch hour.  When I am able to escape my office for lunch, food trucks are one of my first picks. On Friday I went for the Waffle Bus.  I would say this is the most popular food truck in Houston.  I have yet to attend a food truck festival where they [...]

Truluck’s Happy Hour

Random aside to start this post off with, I first remember hearing the term "Happy Hour" as a kid watching the movie Casper starring Christina Ricci.  The "bad" ghosts chanted Happy Hour! Happy Hour! Happy Hour! before dragging the father off to his demise. So whenever I write a post about Happpppy Hourrrr! I say it in my head like the ghosts did . Hahahaha.  Anywho, last week I caught up with one of my Mizzou friends who was in town for some wedding planning. We met up on Friday for Happy Hour at Trulucks!  Trulucks is in the galleria area near some [...]

Houston Restaurant Weeks: Oceanaire Seafood Room

Oceaniare Dining Room This past weekend we celebrated my friend Leeann's birthday at Oceaniare Seafood Room. If you recall, Oceanaire was on my list of places to go for Houston Restaurant Weeks so I was excited about this pick! We had a larger group so we were seated in a semi private area to the side of the main dining room.  The restaurant printed up personalized menus with "Happy Birthday Leeann!" for everyone.  They even put a ribbon on one and gave to my friend as a souvenir.  I thought that was a great touch! Personalized menu for the birthday [...]

Celebratory Brunch!

I met up with a group of high school friends to celebrate a few things.  First, my good friend got engaged in Europe a few weeks ago and this was our first chance to see her in person to congratulate her.  Second my other good friend just completed her degree.  We are so very proud of her and it deserved a good brunch to celebrate.  Then finally, as you can imagine, I surround myself with fellow foodies so we were also celebrating the first Sunday of Houston restaurant weeks :) This year there are not too many brunch options on the [...]

Quick Post: National Chicken Wing Day!

If you recall, in my Happy Hour post I mentioned that I needed to stop by Prospect Park's Wednesday 50 cent wing night.  Twitter informed me that Wednesday was National Chicken Wing Day so, the stars were aligned for a trip to Prospect Park to celebrate! Prospect Park has recently become my "Cheers bar" due to proximity and a great crowd. Prospect brags about having the best wings in town.  I realize that every restaurant says that about their signature dish, but these guys are telling the truth!  I ordered the Parmesan Garlic wings.  The wings are either naked or breaded. [...]

Taco Tuesday!

Living in Houston, Texas means you will be inundated with Tex-Mex restaurants.  It's kind of our niche thing here.  If you have ask any Houston Foodie their favorite Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurant, be prepared for a long list of options.  I am no different!  One day, I will make a list of my favorites, but for today I am just featuring one that I frequent often, Torchy's Tacos!!! Torchy's started in Austin, Texas as a food truck and was so successful they were able to open a brick and mortar store. They eventually expanded to Houston and have grown rapidly here. [...]
