Ramen Tatsu Ya

We are all friends here so I can be honest with you.   For the longest time, if you mentioned "ramen" to me my mind instantly went back to that sodium filled childhood favorite.   It was the only thing my parents let me "cook" when they were not home!  Well with age, I learned that the real ramen, a Japanese favorite is NOTHING like that junk I ate as a kid!  This week, I had the pleasure of trying out the real deal at Ramen Tatsu-ya!  Catch all of the fun below. The Setup and Location Ramen Tatsu Ya, is located [...]

Brunchin’ with Black Girls Who Brunch

I am so excited to share with you all, that I have officially planned my first brunch event, Brunchin' with Black Girls Who Brunch! With a name like Black Girls Who Brunch many folks have assumed that I host events.  The look of disappointment every time I said "no, I just brunch"  got me to thinking.   I put the idea in the back of mind as something I should do sooner than later.   The problem though was planning an event required me to step out of my comfort zone to create an opportunity for BGWB!  Funny thing is [...]

The Sweet List

As a kid, I was weird and hated sweets.  I would pass on my own birthday cake and cringe when offered chocolate.  What was wrong with me?!  Sometime between then and now I developed a massive sweet tooth which constantly puts me on the hunt for the best desserts in Houston.   I wrote about this some years back and that list still holds true.  I just got a tad greedier since that list and discovered several new spots, thus creating the Sweet List! Check below for my additions :) Amorino Who doesn't love good ice cream?  Well, when it comes in [...]

The Paris Series: What to See

Pardon me for the delay in getting these Paris posts out.  I have doing the most and for some reason thought it would be a good idea to go to New York the week after returning from Paris (more on that later).    I am now back, rested and ready to share with you lovely folks the rest of the details from my trip!! So since my last post one of my friends bought a ticket to Paris and has been picking my brain about my trip. Oh and best of all, she got a deal on her flight! I used [...]

Peli Peli Kitchen

A couple months back I attended a watch party to cheer on the Houston restauranters behind the Peli Peli concept as they competed on CNBC's Restaurant Startup.  Using the Shark Tank format, contestants compete for an investment to start a new restaurant.   During the show, the team presented a fast casual option to their widely successful Peli Peli restaurant.   The team won the competition and began preparing to open their new concept, Peli Peli Kitchen!  In preparation they also hosted a pop up kitchen earlier this summer which I attended and thoroughly enjoyed.  Now as they open the first Peli Peli [...]

Fleming’s Sonoma Sunday Brunch

Time for another brunch post! The staff of Flemings invited me to try their Sonoma Sunday brunch at the Woodlands location. Per usual, I brought my sister along for the ride!  Check out our experience at Flemings Sonoma Sunday Brunch below! Location: I rail on the Houston suburbs but I shall give credit where credit is due, the Woodlands has one of the better food scenes in the Houston area. One of my complaints about the Woodlands is the distance, goodness it is far!  Then when I get there I do a Mary Tyler Moore spin and hat toss!  It's beautiful! [...]

White Chocolate & Honey Blondies

A few weeks ago I received my second Degusta Box!  Opening the monthly subscription box still feels like Christmas.  As promised, each box will include some things you have probably seen before or tried.   This go around, that item was the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal.  The other draw of course are new items that you may have never heard of.  In this box I was immediately intrigued by the White Lily White Grape Seed Flour.   I have spurts of baking madness where I am using my KitchenAid mixer weekly, but I have not had much inspiration [...]

Sundown at the Grove

Last Wednesday, I visited Sundown at the Grove presented by Southwest airlines.  The event is weekly and showcases craft breweries paired with cuisine created by the Grove's chef!  I feel a bit cheated since this event has been around for five years and this is only the first year that I heard of it!  When the organizers invited me to attend, I jumped at the chance to experience Sundown and of course share my experience with you all! How it Works The event is hosted on the Grove's upstairs patio which is hands down one of the best rooftop patios [...]

Dak & Bop

So guys finally made it to Dak & Bop for some Korean fried chicken!  Forgive me if you perceive this as ignorant, but when I think of fried chicken, I think of scenes like the Help where Minnie shows Ceila Foote the beauty of mounds of white crisco grease.  A great American tradition that is often stereotypically attributed to African Americans.  Right or wrong, that is where my mind goes when I hear fried chicken.  I have taken ownership of this American food as something quintessentially a part of the African American cuisine. Consider me a little possessive over it [...]

Miyako Happy Hour

It feels like I haven't posted a new restaurant on my blog in forever! The problem is, I have been sticking to the places that I know and love, so few new spots.  Then I have gone the way of other food bloggers and microblog more of my adventures on Instagram and Snapchat (shameless plug, follow me there if you do not already!) Anywho one Friday, I was in search of a new Happy Hour to visit with my Foodie group.  I asked my Houston Food Blogger Collective crew and they all gave me great suggestions, many of which I [...]
