Harold’s in the Heights

Forgive me! I created this blog with the hopes of showcasing Houston Brunch spots and I have been blogging about everything but Houston Brunch spots! I am vowing to do better.  Since it is now officially maxi dress and patio season, I plan to be on someone's patio enjoying brunch until the heat becomes unbearable.  The good folks over at Harold's in the Heights invited me to try a dish they featured for National Waffle Day, the chicken and waffle BLT.  I threw on a maxi dress for the occasion, grabbed some sunglasses and headed out for a much needed brunch. [...]

The Kitchen at the Dunlavy

Houston spring is upon us!! The fact that by February we are back to sunny skies and 70 degree weather is why I will never trade in my hometown for a fancier model.  When the sun is shining I need to be out in the streets doing something and that generally includes eating.  On a Friday earlier this month, my co-worker and I stopped by the Kitchen at the Dunlavy for a quick lunch at this beautiful venue. Location/Setup: The Kitchen at the Dunlavy is part of the new Buffalo Bayou park along Allen Parkway.  The area includes [...]

Killen’s Barbecue and Tailgating

I have proclaimed my love of Kansas City barbecue on this very venue a many a times.  I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that the place that I currently reside is also known for being home of the best barbecue in the country as well (I only acknowledge Texas, Memphis and KC for this accolade!).  When I mention that I have a food blog there are certain places that people always ask if I have visited, Killen's in Pearland usually tops the list.  When I say that I have not been, there is initial shock and then [...]

Buffalo Bayou Brewery

If anything, this blog has forced me to be more adventurous when it comes to my foodie excursions.  I am always looking for new and unique content to keep things fresh around here.  Over the weekend, my friend invited me to Buffalo Bayou Brewery with a small group of his co-workers.  Not going to say that I leaped at the chance, because I am not a beer drinker, but after giving it some thought I decided that it may be worth the trip. Location/Setup: Buffalo Bayou Brewery is located off of I10 about a block or so away from the [...]

Old Chicago Pizza and Tap Room Katy

So last week I did a few things that I do not typically do.  I went to a franchise restaurant in the burbs *gasps*  Hear me out before you hit the unsubscribe button though.  After being invited a couple of times to check out the new Old Chicago location in Katy, I decided to take their team up on their offer.  Their enthusiasm about Old Chicago was contagious so I broke a few of my normal Black Girls Who Brunch stipulations and tried it.  Plus I had fond memories of splurging on meals at Old Chicago while in college in Missouri, [...]

Helen’s Greek Food and Wine

After seeing several bloggers and foodie websites tout Helen's Greek Food and Wine as one of Houston's best new restaurants I knew that it needed to be added to the top of my "must try" list.  I ventured over with my lunch buddy/co-worker on a beautiful Friday afternoon.  Side note, I know it's January but can every day be 70 degrees already?? My spirit is ready for maxi dress and patio season! Inside Helen's Location/Setup: Helen's is right on the main drag of Rice Village, Rice Boulevard.  On a beautiful unseasonably warm day, parking is hard to come [...]

Paul’s Kitchen

In this edition of Erika and Daniela (my co-worker) do a weekday lunch, we stopped over at Paul's Kitchen (PK) in the Upper Kirby area! Location/Setup:  You have probably noticed that Upper Kirby is one of my go to lunch areas and honestly a go to dinner area as well.  Developers packed so many great restaurants in such a small area that speak to my inner foodie! If you frequent this area, you may not have seen Paul's Kitchen because it is kind of hidden.  It's on a side street off of Kirby behind the Elevation Burger and Taco Cabana. [...]

Black Walnut Cafe

Here is a short post about a recent trip I made to Black Walnut Cafe on Memorial! Location/Setup: Black Walnut Cafe has several locations in the Houston area. I have visited the Rice Village location, but on this day I stopped by the location right off of Memorial.  I drive by this one pretty often and it is packed all day everyday!  Black Walnut is a casual cafe setup.  Once you walk in, you stand in line and order then proceed to a table of your choice.  This setup works perfectly if you need a quick breakfast.  On this day, [...]

Fogo de Chao

With this blog, I like to highlight local restaurants or smaller franchises that are unique to Houston.  I am breaking that rule for this post, because my experience at the new Fogo de Chao in the Woodlands was too exciting not to share!  Fogo de Chao invited all of the members from the Houston Food Bloggers Collective to dinner on a day of our choice at the Woodlands location. It was such a great experience, for the reasons described below. Location/Setup:  Initially, I was reluctant to accept the invitation because the Woodlands is such a long drive.  By the time [...]

Bovine & Barley Review

I am so behind on updating my blog with my foodie adventures! My goal is to catch up over the holiday break, so bear with me as I post some things from awhile back.  Several months ago I attended a Houston Food Blogger Collective board meeting at downtown's Bovine & Barley restaurant/bar.  We had the opportunity to sample Bovine & Barley's new brunch menu for dinner and as you know this girl loves brunch! Setup/Location-  Bovine & Barley is off of Main street downtown. When I was in college Main street was briefly the Houston hotspot. From the looks of it [...]
