National Cheeseburger Day: The SHACK

The Shack is a burger joint out in Cypress, Texas, not to be confused with Shake Shack, another burger place that is near and dear to my heart.  One of my favorite foodie websites listed the Shack as a top patio restaurant in Houston.  This drew my attention because A) it is not in the loop like all of the other places on the list B) while I live closer to heart of Houston, I grew up in Cypress but had never heard of this place and C) how was this place prospering in the land of franchise restaurants?  My [...]

Houston Restaurant Weeks Wrap Up: III Forks

Several weeks back I went to III Forks on the last weekend of Houston Restaurant Weeks.  If you recall from my first Houston Restaurants Weeks post, this was one of my favorite places from 2014's Houston Restaurant Weeks. Great service, great portion sizes and great food.  My foodie group and I decided to ring in one members' birthday month with a trip to III Forks. Setup: III Forks is in the Houston Pavilions in downtown Houston.  Downtown Houston is not ideal for any restaurant in my opinion.  This city's downtown goes to sleep after five pm on weekdays and for most [...]

Foodie Problems

I will be the first to admit, most of these are first world problems! But as I was thinking about the life of a foodie, I could not help but think it is not all glamour and free dinners.  Here are the "problems" I came up with and I thought I would share, ha! Pondering about world problems. 1)I try to keep it positive for the most part on my blog.  The idea is that you can come here for places I recommend, not places I hate. (Check out my Zomato account for the whole gamut!)  Now while I [...]

Lunch at District 7!

A few weeks ago I stopped over at District 7 for a workday lunch with members of my office.  District 7 has several locations. This time we went to District 7 in EADO.  Yes people, Houston is picking up the New York naming of neighborhoods. EADO=East Downtown.   This was my first time at this location, but I have been to the diner in midtown. Setup: The EADO location is cute  It is not as charming as the midtown location, which is styled like an old school diner. It is open late so it is super convenient for breakfast after [...]

Back at B&B Butchers!

I made it back to B&B Butcher's before Houston Restaurant Week ended as promised.  Frankly, B&B Butchers is a budget buster (say that three times fast), SO I needed the budget friendly Restaurants Week menu to indulge once again.  This time, my sister, mother and I went on a Sunday for lunch.  I will just touch on what was different about this experience.  For my full review, check out my last post. Service On my last visit, I was treated to a tasting menu with the Houston Food Bloggers Collective.  The service was impeccable, but they of course knew that [...]

Quick Post: The Waffle Bus

I have been blogging steadily for about three months and somehow this is my first post about a Houston Food Truck! (Check out my post about Dallas Food Trucks here).  Kind of surprising since I love food trucks.  My job opens its' doors to several food trucks daily during the lunch hour.  When I am able to escape my office for lunch, food trucks are one of my first picks. On Friday I went for the Waffle Bus.  I would say this is the most popular food truck in Houston.  I have yet to attend a food truck festival where they [...]

Indulging on the Carnival Glory Part TWO

Beautiful view of the middle of no where. It's been about a week since my vacation ended and I am finally writing my last post about my Carnival Cruise.  Then it's back to posting about Houston fare! So this final post will focus on all of the food we had in the main dining room.  For traditional cruising, you eat your dinner in the main dining room. It is generally a three course meal with several menu options.  Best of all you can order as many of the options as you would like.  The dining room is the best [...]

Black Girls Who Brunch AND Blog

Whew last weekend was exhausting! Sam Smith concert, an 80s vs 90s party and then brunch with fellow bloggers! This was all before noon on Saturday.  If my schedule was not crazy enough, a flat tire meant I had to roll up to brunch in Uptown Park sporting my donut tire.  Despite the weekend craziness, it was great to gather with a group of fellow bloggers to enjoy a delicious brunch and excellent conversation. Renia, the creator of Gristle and Gossip suggested that several black food bloggers meet for brunch during the Houston Restaurant Weeks month.  Renia picked the french [...]

B&B Butchers Review

I have been blogging steadily here for about a month and I must say, the best thing I have done so far is join the Houston Food Bloggers Collective (HFBC)! It's a great way to network with other bloggers and for interested parties to find you/your blog.  On Tuesday, I attended my first HFBC event, a menu tasting at the new Houston steakhouse B&B Butchers. I brought my sister along as my plus one and we took a TON of pictures, so this post will be filled with pictures :).  Here is my experience: Setup: B&B Butchers is housed in a converted [...]

Dallas Food Trucks

I am definitely a fan of the food truck trend.  The last few times I visited family in Dallas, I noticed the food truck festival at Floyd Warren Park. Apparently they park there weekly. On my most recent visit I got to visit the park and see what the Dallas Food trucks are all about ( I will post on Houston food trucks eventually) Two things that a long line at a food truck tells me, a) it’s popular because people are flocking b) the food is likely fresh because the line isn’t moving quickly enough to keep it short. [...]
