Harold’s in the Heights

Forgive me! I created this blog with the hopes of showcasing Houston Brunch spots and I have been blogging about everything but Houston Brunch spots! I am vowing to do better.  Since it is now officially maxi dress and patio season, I plan to be on someone's patio enjoying brunch until the heat becomes unbearable.  The good folks over at Harold's in the Heights invited me to try a dish they featured for National Waffle Day, the chicken and waffle BLT.  I threw on a maxi dress for the occasion, grabbed some sunglasses and headed out for a much needed brunch. [...]

Black Walnut Cafe

Here is a short post about a recent trip I made to Black Walnut Cafe on Memorial! Location/Setup: Black Walnut Cafe has several locations in the Houston area. I have visited the Rice Village location, but on this day I stopped by the location right off of Memorial.  I drive by this one pretty often and it is packed all day everyday!  Black Walnut is a casual cafe setup.  Once you walk in, you stand in line and order then proceed to a table of your choice.  This setup works perfectly if you need a quick breakfast.  On this day, [...]

Brunch at Black & White

Last weekend I served as host for my friend who was in town from Kansas City. Before arriving, she told me, "Erika I just want to eat at cool places that I cannot get at home."  And eat we did!  While looking for a Saturday brunch spot to take her to, I caught a picture of Black & White's chicken and waffle's brunch option on Instagram and was immediately sold. Off to Black & White Restaurant we went. The Setup: Black and white are my signature wardrobe colors because you really cannot go wrong with them! Once I learned that the Heights [...]

Rustic Oak Gastro Pub and Wine

*This location is now closed :(.  Check out my brunch file for other options* I have failed you all and not stayed true to the name of this blog! If you check my "Brunch" category you may have noticed that I had not added a brunch post in months.  I rectified that problem this past weekend with a trip to Rustic Oak Gastro Pub and Wine with my foodie group friends.  Rustic Oak is a quaint restaurant which serves a brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.  It is located right off of Richmond and 59, in Montrose.  We stopped by for a Sunday [...]

Black Girls Who Brunch AND Blog

Whew last weekend was exhausting! Sam Smith concert, an 80s vs 90s party and then brunch with fellow bloggers! This was all before noon on Saturday.  If my schedule was not crazy enough, a flat tire meant I had to roll up to brunch in Uptown Park sporting my donut tire.  Despite the weekend craziness, it was great to gather with a group of fellow bloggers to enjoy a delicious brunch and excellent conversation. Renia, the creator of Gristle and Gossip suggested that several black food bloggers meet for brunch during the Houston Restaurant Weeks month.  Renia picked the french [...]

Celebratory Brunch!

I met up with a group of high school friends to celebrate a few things.  First, my good friend got engaged in Europe a few weeks ago and this was our first chance to see her in person to congratulate her.  Second my other good friend just completed her degree.  We are so very proud of her and it deserved a good brunch to celebrate.  Then finally, as you can imagine, I surround myself with fellow foodies so we were also celebrating the first Sunday of Houston restaurant weeks :) This year there are not too many brunch options on the [...]

Foodie Travels: Breakfasts in Chicago!

My view of downtown Chicago, from Lake Michigan! Chicago marked the end of a long travel binge! Praise god because I am TIRED! I went to Chicago for my friend's 30th birthday bash. Chicago is definitely a foodie town so I was excited to try some new places during this trip.  Their foodie history is best represented by the Taste of Chicago event.  The taste was going on while I was in town and shockingly I decided not to go.  So many of my Chicagoan friends have said "it's not the same" so we saved our money and time! I [...]

Foodie Travels: Kansas City

At least once a year I make the trip to Kansas City, my birthplace and where most of my family still lives (Houston is still home though!)  I was only in town for a few days for the fourth of July but I was eager to try out a new restaurant for brunch while there.   I planned to meet some college friends who live there and wanted somewhere that was unique to Kansas City.  I asked my twitter followers if Kansas City had any "cute brunch" places and one of my friend offered up Char Bar.  It definitely met my expectations! [...]

Birthday Brunch!

To celebrate my birthday, I invited several friends out to a Saturday brunch at Union Kitchen.  As you can imagine, the girls in my life also love a good brunch, so it seemed like the appropriate choice. Of course I had a great time with my girls! Not quite 30, yet but this still seems fitting HAHAHA! The Setup:  Urban Kitchen has several locations in Houston. This location is on Bellaire in a crowded shopping center.  It's right next to Dr. Nowzaradan office. He's the doctor on TLC's show My 600 pound life.  I actually say a film [...]
