To Split the Check or Not?

So I am an avid twitter user, logging in numerous times a day.  One of the draws for me is the constant conversations about current events, politics, reality tv and a host of other things.  Twitter is often times a focus group of sorts if you want to get a variety of opinions.  I have seen people debate whether a $200 date is acceptable or the best way to approach a woman you are interested in.  Trust me, these debates are reoccurring and hilarious.  A recent debate got me thinking and I decided that this topic deserves a blog post. [...]

The Paris Series: Random Thoughts and Tips

I know it's been over a month since I returned from Paris, but I have more to say!! Spend about a week in foreign countries and you will come home with SO many thoughts.  In this case, all of my thoughts did not fit in my three previous posts so I had to make a whole new posts with my random musings from this trip.  I threw in a few travel tips too :).  Enjoy! Rude? One common thing I heard about Parisians is that they are RUDE.  I did not find that to be true!  While they were not [...]

The Brunch Off- Taste of the NFL

Right before Christmas, I attended a super fun event at Third Coast Houston!  The event, "The Brunch Off"  was a preview to the Taste of the NFL event which is set to be hosted during Super Bowl week here in Houston.  Enjoy the Brunch Off-Taste of the NFL post, recapping the event and providing a few details of the upcoming Taste of the NFL! The Brunch Off Event As the Texans took on the Jacksonville Jaguars, our Brunch Off featured chefs from Houston and Jacksonville offering up their best brunch dishes for us to dine on while watching the game! Potluck Time: Banana Trifle

I love to start a post with a somewhat relevant story, so here it goes!  When I graduated law school I entered into the suckiest legal market in recent history.  With little experience I was relegated to the document review world or as I called it, the land of the unwanted attorney.  Basically, the work was super boring and simple enough that a trained monkey could do it.  Then the jobs were temporary with no benefits.  When I tell you it was THE worst.  As you can imagine, we tried to make the best of it.  On one project, everyone [...]

My Served Meals

Can I talk about black girl magic a little before I get into this post? It is somewhat relevant here I promise.  Today our nation woke up to a new President elect.  It shakes me to my core to think President Barack Obama will be followed by a candidate who ran on fear and bigotry.  I'll save you my legal and historic rant on that for another time and venue.  Despite all that I believe went wrong with this election, when I scanned the exit poll returns  I was SO proud to see how black women voted.  We are not [...]

Thanksgiving at Fleming’s

Has anyone else noticed the extreme rush to get to Christmas this year? I saw full out Christmas decorations before Halloween!  It such a pity too because Thanksgiving is a great holiday especially for the foodies!  The last few years my mother has conned me into cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the rest of the family.  That process takes a lot out of you! For those looking for additional options that do not involve slaving away in the kitchen, Flemings Steakhouse will have all of their locations open on Thanksgiving Day offering a four course meal.  Plus, all the wine will [...]

Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes

As you know I am a make reservations kinda gal rather than spend all day in the kitchen.  However, because I do not does not mean I cannot!  When the urge hits me I generally try to whip up something homemade and a little more detailed.  On this particular Sunday, a trip to Trader Joe's had me wanting to roast my own chicken and concoct some good hearty sides to go with it.  Most importantly have some leftovers to get me through the week. So I started out using this recipe from Carnal Dish for a Meyer Lemon & Garlic [...]

White Chocolate & Honey Blondies

A few weeks ago I received my second Degusta Box!  Opening the monthly subscription box still feels like Christmas.  As promised, each box will include some things you have probably seen before or tried.   This go around, that item was the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal.  The other draw of course are new items that you may have never heard of.  In this box I was immediately intrigued by the White Lily White Grape Seed Flour.   I have spurts of baking madness where I am using my KitchenAid mixer weekly, but I have not had much inspiration [...]
