The Original Hot Dog Factory Houston

If you are an avid watcher of Real Housewives of Atlanta like me you are very familiar with the Original Hot Dog Factory!  When Porsha introduced her boo, Dennis McKinley on RHOA some years ago, they also introduced us to his restaurant, the Original Hot Dog Factory.   The brand recently began franchising across the country with a new location arriving right here in Houston.  The franchise owners happen to be two Houstonian sisters.   I stopped by a few weeks back with my own sister to try out the Original Hot Dog Factory Houston.  Check out the details below! The Setup [...]

Kamp Houston

Despite the oddities that are 2020, restaurants are still opening albeit with less fanfare than years past.   The folks behind Prospect Park, Lost and Found and countless other bars/clubs frequented by Houston's black crowd have opened yet another bar in Houston.  This time, they have taken over the space vacated by Beaver's late last year to create Houston's newest bar experience, Kamp Houston. The Setup The clientele between Beavers and Kamp likely doesn't have much crossover so I am probably one of the few people who had the privilege of visiting both spots.  Both locations played up the outdoor theme [...]

Bellagreen Winter Menu

*Checks calendar* February is almost over which means we are officially two months in to 2020! Many of us started 2020 with new years resolutions or affirmations for the year.  I am sure those included being healthier, working out more etc.   I am no different, but also know I have to be realistic with myself.  Ya girl likes to eat out!  I've obviously built a whole brand around this.  As such, I try to find dining options that are good, fairly priced and do not load on the calories.  Bonus points if they deliver!  Well, a few weeks back I [...]

ChopnBlok

What a nice segue from my last post about getting invited to blogger events!  A few weeks ago, I attended a pop up event at Flora Culture for ChopnBlok.   I had the privilege of being a friend's plus one (one of my tips) AND Houston Insider partnered to host the event (a second tip).   Honestly, I did not care HOW I got in the building.  I was just glad to be present for the ChopnBlok experience! The Event ChopnBlok hosts dining experiences which aim to expose the Houston community to Western African cuisine and culture.  With "fusion" being the hottest [...]

Lost & Found

Welcome to 2020! Instead of doing some fake deep post for the start of the year, I figured I would jump right in to what brings most of y'all to my website.  My reviews of Houston's best food establishments.  Most importantly, you all seemed excited about this spot based on my Instagram post so I thought it would best to do a full review.  Here you have it folks, my review of Lost & Found Houston's latest Midtown Bar. The Setup Lost & Found is a new bar located in Houston's Midtown AKA Fourth Ward.  The concept is brought to [...]

Davis St. at Hermann Park Featuring Chef Holley

A few years ago, Houston lost two great black owned restaurants Holley's and Davis Street at Hermann Park.  As I have traveled this year, I am learning that Houston is lucky in that not only do we have a plethora of black owned restaurants, but they also run the gamut in terms of restaurant type.   For example, we have high-end celebratory kind of restaurants that are also black owned.  Holley's and Davis Street fell in that "when you feeling fancy" category of a restaurant so I was sad to see them go! Well this year, in 2019, the owners behind [...]

Bravery Chef Hall

I am obsessed with food halls (our fancy phrase for cafeterias) and downtown Houston is feeding my obsession by continuing to add new food halls!  Currently, we have Conservatory, Finn Hall, Understory and now Bravery Chef Hall.  I have been to them all and would recommend them all for different reasons.  Most recently, I stopped by Bravery Chef Hall a food hall located at the bottom of the Aris Market Square Apartments.   While the basic concept is similar, Bravery Chef Hall features restaurants curated by chefs making their offerings a step above others.  Check out my experience during a lunchtime [...]

Postino Wine Cafe

It took Postino Wine Cafe opening a second location in Montrose for me to finally visit.  Trust it was not for lack of trying.  Ever since Postino opened their first location in the Heights, I have been trying in live my best life on their patio!  Well since it has remained popular since opening, I could never snag a table.  So please know that I was SO excited when I received an event to the soft opening of the Montrose location!  I finally got to see the hype about Postino Wine Cafe.  Check out my experience below! The Setup At [...]

Strato 550

As you all know, a good venue for me comes with good vibes and scenery.  Lately, that generally involves good views of downtown or a rooftop.  In Strato 550, I found both! I caught a work lunch at the downtown restaurant during Houston Restaurant Weeks.  Not only is their food great, but the views are some of the best in the city.  Here are the details! The Setup Located in the 1415 Louisiana Building, Strato 550 calls the top floor home.  After ascending to the 43rd floor, patrons will first encounter the meeting rooms.  Strato 550 doubles as a conference [...]

THE Houston Itinerary

For those who follow my Instagram story, you are fully aware that this weekend I embarked on the Cadillac of Houston Tours.  A few of my cousins were in town for the weekend from Kansas City including my cousin Brian and his wife who visited last year as well.  Their last visit actually inspired my Houston Neighborhood Guides!  This go around, my cousin Troy joined in on the fun and I was determined to highlight some of my favorite things about my hometown.  Our weekend turned in to THE Houston Itinerary. A little back story.  I've lived in Houston pretty [...]
