Pinkerton’s Texas Pit Barbecue

I feel obligated to start with this whenever I write a blog post about Texas Barbecue.  I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri therefore I see KC Barbecue as the pinnacle of good barbecue #dontdebateme.  As such, I am typically iffy about trying out barbecue spots here in Texas despite all of the hype and praise.   Well a few months back, I had a sample of Pinkerton's at the Houston Chronicle Culinary Stars event.  It was a small brisket slider on a jalapeño bun, but it won me over enough to at least stop by.  So I did just that... Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill

Bronx's own Jamaican restaurant Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill made its way to Houston opening TWO locations in the last few weeks! They hosted a grand opening with much fanfare a few weekends ago.  I was feeling a bit anti-social so I skipped the big party and decided to swing by on a quiet Saturday to try out Golden Krust!  In short, I enjoyed it but keep reading for the full experience ! The Setup I visited the Westheimer location which is in a busy shopping center near a Home Depot and Pet's Mart.  I expect it do well [...]

For the Kulture

Earlier this week, I visited Kulture with a group of food blogger friends.  Kulture is a new restaurant in the convention center part of downtown, owned and operated by Marcus Davis, the owner of the Breakfast Klub.  Now, the Breakfast Klub is truly a Houston institution, so I was eager to visit this new concept! In short, as the name implies, this restaurant is the epitome of "For the Kulture!" The Location/Setup Kulture took up residence in the Avendia Houston building which connects to the new Marriot Marquis Houston.  With a prime location, Kulture will certainly pull the after work [...]

Dinner at Mastro’s

I tried my best to leave all of my 2017 dining experiences in 2017, but I have just one more to share.  I rounded out the holiday season with a stop over to the brand new Mastro's Steakhouse!  Owner Tilman Fertitta finally brought the nationally renowned Mastro's brand to Houston to anchor his new Post Oak mixed use space.  Here are all of the details of Dinner at Mastro's! The Setup and Location The Post Oak luxury mixed use space is set to open in March 2018, but we got a bit of a tease with the opening of Mastro's [...]

Sunday Funday at Moxie’s Grill and Bar

So I went to Moxie's this weekend because I am a follower.  Yes, I follow the crowd to new spots so I can report back all of the TEA to you all.  So Moxie's vibe reminds me of college!  Hear me out!  The year was 2008, I was a senior and college and really thought I was ALL the way grown.  *Cackles thinking about how wrong I was back then*  My "grown" self LOVED a spot called Houlihan's.  It seemed fancy compared to the Chili's in our small college town.  Part of the fancy came from the $20 entree price-point.  [...]

A Feast at Bacon Bros!

This restaurant is sadly now closed :(  I made a rare appearance in suburban Houston just for a food tasting! If you tell me a restaurant focuses on bacon and other pork items?? I am willing to make the drive and let me just tell you Bacon Bros was totally worth it!  Starting in South Carolina, local entrepreneur Travis Cook brought the first out of state imprint to the Houston area!  While it stays true to the original, this farm fresh restaurant also pays homage to local flavors.  For all the details read on about a feast at Bacon Bros! The Location [...]

Ramen Tatsu Ya

The Setup and Location Ramen Tatsu Ya, is located [...]

National Pasta Month at Brio Tuscan Grille!

When I first moved back to Houston about five years ago, Brio Tuscan Grille in City Centre was one of my go to spots. I cannot really say why it fell out of rotation, but after my most recent visit it is DEF back on the list.   October just so happens to be National Pasta Month.  To celebrate, Brio Tuscan Grille created a two course pre fixe menu featuring some great pasta dishes.  Yesterday, myself and a friend of mine had the pleasure of sampling the whole menu! So, I am here to give you all of the National Pasta [...]
