Brunch at State Fare

I am embarking on a slow mission to try some new brunch spots so that I can update my brunch faves for 2018! First on the list, a stop over to State Fare.  I have blogged about State Fare in the past, but had yet to try their brunch menu which everyone seems to rave about.  Well add me to the fan club because the Brunch at State Fare is SO good.  Check out all the details below! The Location Since my last visit, State Fare did a pretty extensive remodel.  The color concept changed and barriers were added to [...]

BGWB presents Beauty and the Brunch with Mo Knows Hair powered by Sally Beauty!

I am SO excited to finally announce the details of my next Black Girls Who Brunch event!  After the success of my first event last summer, people of course asked for details for the next event.  I tested out options, considered locations all with the goal of topping the previous event and bringing something different to the Houston brunch scene.  I also love creating events with black women in mind.  Well, being intentional and well thought out has its rewards folks!   So here we are after months of planning I can FINALLY announce my next event: BGWB presents Beauty and [...]

Birthday Brunch by Chef Vicky

My dad turned 60 at the end of last year and as you would expect, we wanted to do something special!  My sister came up with the genius idea to hire a private chef to cook a birthday brunch right in our home kitchen.  Even better, I just happen to know a private chef, my friend Chef Vicky who runs the blog Tha Fat Girl Food Chronicles.   We quickly linked with her and planned a Birthday Brunch by Chef Vicky.   Keep reading for all of the fun details! How it Works Vicky is a fabulous formally trained chef in the Houston [...]

Brunch and Football!

The calendar says it is fall, yet Houston temperatures say otherwise! Despite our fall weather challenges there are a few other signs that fall is upon us, including football!  Eventually the weather will cooperate and when it does, two of the greatest Sunday events converge to create the ultimate Sunday Funday!  Brunch and Football! So here is how I made this list.   There are plenty of brunch spots around town, but many of them do not have ample televisions to really enjoy all of the Sunday NFL games.   On the other end, many sports bars lack dedicated brunch [...]

Brioche French Toast Casserole

I have quite a bit of time on my hands due to Hurricane Harvey.   I have spent some time volunteering and working on long term efforts with some of my blogger friends.   But I STILL had some time on my hands.  So what's a food blogger to do?  Play around in the kitchen that's what.  As a brunch lover, I have wanted to create a French Toast Casserole after seeing Tia Mowry's version on her cooking show!  Now seemed like a great time to create a Brioche French Toast Casserole! Check out the recipe below. Brioche French Toast [...]

Brunch at Around the Corner

EADO (East Downtown) seems to be the new hot area in Houston! I guess I am a follower because this is my third post from a spot in EADO this summer alone!  This past weekend I grabbed by blogger friend Chef Vicky and we headed to Around the Corner to catch up on things like Insecure and strategize about this blogging game.   Check out my recap of Brunch at Around the Corner! The Setup: Around the Corner is housed in a converted 1930s bungalow.   The charm of the home remains with original hard floors and a floor plan [...]

Black Owned Brunchin’

So when I travel there are a few musts for me when it comes to food.  First, I want to stick to locally owned spots that reflect the local cuisine and culture.  Next, I gotssss to find a brunch spot.  The reason there is obvious!  Beyond that though, I also really like supporting black owned businesses!  While thinking about these three things, I decided to put together a list of black owned brunch spots around the country!  I reached out to my vast blogger circle and friends for their advice and posts so that we can spread some love via Black [...]

It’s Not Delivery, It’s Brunch at Home!

So technically it IS delivery, but I loved this title so I had to go with it!  Brunch is very much a social experience. You grab your crew and catch up on the good gossip around a carafe of mimosas.  I completely get that, but some days I just want the food without the fluff.   Basically send me the chicken and waffles to my door, so I do not have to don makeup and a cute outfit!  For me, during the weekend when I am working my to 5-9 (i.e. this blog) having brunch delivered is THE best thing! [...]
