With everyone so hung up on brunch, it seems like we forget how great a simple breakfast can be.  I got a reminder last weekend with a stop over to Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina in Memorial for their weekend breakfast!  It is so good and worth the early morning wake up!

The Drinks

Since it was still breakfast, I kind of expected to only be offered coffee and OJ (hold the pulp).  Well the one thing that feels brunch like would be the drink menu.   The brunch cocktails include sangria, bloody marys and the Frida (sparkling wine, OJ and orange liqueur).  Without a doubt this was the earliest I have ever drank wine, but I could not pass up on the Frida cocktail.  It is very good yet not too strong which makes it perfect for an earlier meal.

The Food

On to the food!  This is where you see the distinction between a traditional brunch and breakfast menu.  Brunch menus tend to be a hybrid of lunch and breakfast so you will see things like burgers and pancakes.   Here, you will get a traditional breakfast menu with a bit of TexMex flair.  It reminds me of the after church breakfasts stops from childhood, but better.

The pecan waffle.

Most people in my group went for the famous pecan waffle. If you are a fan of pecans then I would recommend this one as well.  I heard no complaints.  I went for the pancakes and I have to say they were some of the best in town.   The pancakes are huge, fluffy and buttery.  So good!  Also, since I am greedy I got a breakfast taco on the side.   I swore off eggs at about 5 years old, so I ordered the rice, bean and cheese taco.  Y’all this was also SO good!

I also ordered ham because again GREEDY!

Huevos Rancheros

Other thing to note, the price points are great.  Those pancakes which can easily be shared are only $8 bucks and all of the tacos are less than $4.  Basically, you have great food items that will not break the bank.  That is a win in my book!

The Takeaway

We each went home with this cute box full of Pralines!

Goode Co. is a great spot for an early weekend breakfast.  You can catch the breakfast menu from 7:30am to noon on Saturday and Sundays.  It kind of reminds me of a Cracker Barrel without the weekend crowd and a bit of a TexMex spin on it.  Go ahead and add this to your breakfast spot rotation!
