Can you guys believe this last month was my first visit to Bernie’s Burger Bus?!  I always hear Bernie’s mentioned as one of the best local burger spots in town I just had not made my way to one of their locations yet. Luckily, their team invited me out for a tasting at their brand new location in the Heights!  The cool thing about Bernie’s? It literally started out as a food truck run out of an old bus, hence the name.  Some of their original spots to park the bus were in the Heights.  Bernie’s is now full circle with the inclusion of their new Bernie’s Burger Bus Heights location!  Keep reading for all of the details.

The Setup

The space is smaller, but cozy.  In the center of the restaurant is a bar with televisions featuring local sporting events.  Nestled right in the Heights, I see this being a great spot to watch games in a semi-bar like atmosphere. The highlight of the space though? Is the kitchen which opens up into the restaurant out of the original food truck bus!  The owner, Justin Turner shared that the truck was not longer operational, so he decided to bring it into their new restaurant.  So it will forever have a functional use!

The Drinks

So, please know that while Bernie’s IS family friendly they ensured there is an adult friendly menu too with COCKTAILS! I enjoy any cocktail that comes with beautiful fresh fruit as a garnish.  It’s like a pretty drink just calls my name.

OH and there are shakes too! Spiked ones for the adults :)!

For the shake fans, this is your spot!

The Food

Dishes came out really fast, so forgive me if I am unable to name everything we tried!  All you need to remember though is it was all good!  The burgers all have fun names like the Substitute or the Principal, playing on the original school bus food truck theme.

Oh and these fries y’all! So you can get the basic fries which are good especially with Bernie’s homemade ketchup.  But why go simple when you can load them up with SO much good stuff.  Highkey, you can honestly make a meal out of these fries! My favorite fries had to be the Honor Roll fries which are piled high with barbecue brisket.

Look at those honor roll fries, with that brisket! YES!

The Takeaway

I know we have so many burger spots in Houston and national brands keep popping in town too, but I do think Bernie’s is a standout among the bunch!  The burgers are great and their fries are AMAZING.  Plus you an enjoy a nice cocktail with your meal.  Sounds like a win win to me!
