I traveled to “France” for lunch recently and I am back just in time to share my experience with you! By France, I mean Cafe Azur, Houston’s latest and greatest French restaurant. Since opening last fall, Cafe Azur has been delighting Montrose visitors with their beautiful patio, brunch and dinner menus. Here recently, they expanded their offerings to include lunch. I took a break from my real paying job for a nice lunch with fellow bloggers where we experienced the French Riviera!
I visited Cafe Azur last fall soon after they open and loved it. Time got away from me and I was not able to blog about it way back then, so I was excited for another opportunity! Just like my last visit, the beauty of this restaurant was one of the highlights. As you enter, you first greeted by a rather large patio considering the location. Here, guests can luxuriate and pretend they are really in the French Riviera, while watching the Montrose traffic. All kidding aside, it really is a beautiful patio and has recently won accolades for the space.
The inside feels like a house with beautiful hardwood floors and blue accents. As blue is my favorite color, adding it to a space is an easy win for me! The dining room space is not large, but that is certainly part of it’s homey charge. The owners also indicated that there is a space upstairs as well. I had to duck out to go back to work so I missed viewing this space. My guess is it is as beautiful as the rest of the restaurant.
Oh and a note about parking. When you arrive you will notice there is no dedicated “Cafe Azur” parking, but staff assured me that parking at the bank next door is allowed and you will not be towed! There is also plenty of street parking via the street behind the restaurant. I opted for street parking on both visits. I endured a short walk to the restaurant, but I still say this is a great parking option.
Chef/ Owner Sidney Degaine treated us to a fabulous family style tasting of their new lunch menu. Everything they set in front of us was picture perfect and tasty. My favorite dish was the Beef Burgundy. The dish included beef resting on a huge plate of mashed potatoes, with fingerling potato chips and gremolota. Such a great dish!
All these dishes were good, but on my next visit I will certainly be ordering the Croque Monsieur. That is the quintessential French lunch dish for me and you really cannot go wrong with ham and cheese!
The highlight of meals at Cafe Azur is DESSERT. During this course, the chef comes out and makes liquide nitrogen ice cream table side. On my last visit we were treated to a delicious pistachio ice cream. This go around it was chocolate. Now, please know this is not just a fun “science experiment” the ice cream is REALLY good. It’s creamy and the flavors are strong.
I expect Cafe Azur to be a popular work lunch destination soon enough. They have a great location and it is SUPER cute. The food also solidifies that the crowd will come. It’s a great spot that I cannot wait to visit again.
