As a kid, I was weird and hated sweets. I would pass on my own birthday cake and cringe when offered chocolate. What was wrong with me?! Sometime between then and now I developed a massive sweet tooth which constantly puts me on the hunt for the best desserts in Houston. I wrote about this some years back and that list still holds true. I just got a tad greedier since that list and discovered several new spots, thus creating the Sweet List! Check below for my additions 🙂
Who doesn’t love good ice cream? Well, when it comes in the shape of a rose it’s even more endearing! As I have said before Amorino isn’t just good for the look, the natural ingredients imported from France create a tasty dessert!
Right across the street from my other favorite Dessert Gallery, you will find a smaller dessert spot Oui. So I have only tried one thing at Oui, but it is good enough to make it on this list! The Nutella Cake, y’all. It’s moist, chocolatey with a hint of hazelnut flavor from the Nutella. Order a slice, or maybe the whole thing. I promise you will not regret it.
I just love this concept. You pick the cookie of your choice and then whatever ice cream you like. Boom, you’ve got a great dessert. You can catch the Smoosh food truck in the Rice Village and be on the look out for the brick and mortar location opening sometime in 2017!
These large, chewy, buttery cookies are perfection! They are so popular that the owners of Tiny No. 5 and Tiny Boxwoods decided to open a whole storefront, Tiny’s Milk and Cookies, dedicated to fulfilling Houston’s cookie needs. At the new cookie spot, you can even pick up cookie dough to bake at home and stunt like you made them from scratch *insert smirk emoji*
Del Frisco’s Grille Nutella Bread Pudding
Yes, this is the second Nutella based dessert to make the list and no I am not obsessed with Nutella! These desserts are just amazing and worthy of recognition. At Del Frisco’s Grille, their Nutella creation comes in the form of bread pudding. Here, the bread pudding is not as soggy as some others making it more appealing to a variety of tastebuds.
Third Coast‘s Sticky Toffee Pudding
During my preview of the new Third Coast restaurant, they brought out three mini desserts for us to try. So all three of the desserts were delicious, but the sticky toffee pudding?? My god that thing was perfection! I can only imagine how great the regular sized one is.
Shout out to Amy’s Ice Cream for offering Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream! If you have never tried Mexican Vanilla extract, I recommend that you upgrade your life! While their Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream is their signature flavor, Amy’s offers many flavors and toppings.
Dessert galleries are my favorite places, but one owned by a black baker goes straight to the top of my list! If you are looking for stuff you cannot get at just any old bakery this is the place to go! Stuff like banana pudding, peach cobbler or sock-it-to-me cake for example. On the day that I went, I picked up a delicious mini sweet potato pie. Do you know how hard it is to find that in a country devoted to pumpkins?! Head here if you are look for sure fire goodness like your grandma used to make.
When I’m not trying to create a homemade frozen custard, Honeychild’s Sweet Creams is the place to go! They usually set up shop at the Farmer’s Market on Richmond and if you follow them on Instagram you can keep up with all of the fun flavors they are cooking up.
I am GREEDY and always looking for more sweet spots to visit in Houston. Head to the comments with your favorite spots as well!
