Peli Peli Kitchen

A couple months back I attended a watch party to cheer on the Houston restauranters behind the Peli Peli concept as they competed on CNBC's Restaurant Startup.  Using the Shark Tank format, contestants compete for an investment to start a new restaurant.   During the show, the team presented a fast casual option to their widely successful Peli Peli restaurant.   The team won the competition and began preparing to open their new concept, Peli Peli Kitchen!  In preparation they also hosted a pop up kitchen earlier this summer which I attended and thoroughly enjoyed.  Now as they open the first Peli Peli [...]

Fleming’s Sonoma Sunday Brunch

Time for another brunch post! The staff of Flemings invited me to try their Sonoma Sunday brunch at the Woodlands location. Per usual, I brought my sister along for the ride!  Check out our experience below! Location: I rail on the Houston suburbs but I shall give credit where credit is due, the Woodlands has one of the better food scenes in the Houston area. One of my complaints about the Woodlands is the distance, goodness it is far!  Then when I get there I do a Mary Tyler Moore spin and hat toss!  It's beautiful! There are even waterways [...]

Amorino Gelato

I make a point to keep an eye out for all the new openings in Houston River Oaks District.  Since opening last fall, River Oaks District has become home to Houston's premiere luxury stores and restaurants. After visiting the district's inspiration Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles, I am even more convinced of the district's luxury creds! Back to the issue at hand, Thursday marked the opening of another exciting River Oaks tenant, Amorino a Parisian based gelato franchise brought to Houston by a Parisian couple! Some of you are probably thinking gelato? Blah blah blah! I can just grab Talenti from [...]

The Morning After – A Brunch Event

Beignets The best way to recover the morning after a fabulous night on the town is to head to brunch with a group of friends.   These brunches usually include a recap of the previous evening's festivities, good food AND mimosas.  The Houston Press took this concept and turned it into a great event, smartly called The Morning After- A Brunch Event!  On October 1st, Houston brunch lovers will be treated to food and cocktails from all the best Houston brunch spots including my all time favorite spot, Max's Wine Dive!  There are other great editions such as [...]

White Chocolate & Honey Blondies

A few weeks ago I received my second Degusta Box!  Opening the monthly subscription box still feels like Christmas.  As promised, each box will include some things you have probably seen before or tried.   This go around, that item was the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal.  The other draw of course are new items that you may have never heard of.  In this box I was immediately intrigued by the White Lily White Grape Seed Flour.   I have spurts of baking madness where I am using my KitchenAid mixer weekly, but I have not had much inspiration [...]

Sundown at the Grove

Last Wednesday, I visited Sundown at the Grove presented by Southwest airlines.  The event is weekly and showcases craft breweries paired with cuisine created by the Grove's chef!  I feel a bit cheated since this event has been around for five years and this is only the first year that I heard of it!  When the organizers invited me to attend, I jumped at the chance to experience Sundown and of course share my experience with you all! How it Works The event is hosted on the Grove's upstairs patio which is hands down one of the best rooftop patios [...]

Dak & Bop

So guys finally made it to Dak & Bop for some Korean fried chicken!  Forgive me if you perceive this as ignorant, but when I think of fried chicken, I think of scenes like the Help where Minnie shows Ceila Foote the beauty of mounds of white crisco grease.  A great American tradition that is often stereotypically attributed to African Americans.  Right or wrong, that is where my mind goes when I hear fried chicken.  I have taken ownership of this American food as something quintessentially a part of the African American cuisine. Consider me a little possessive over it [...]

Revolve Kitchen + Bar at Hotel Derek

Hey friends! I am back at it again with a dinner review of Hotel Derek's Revolve Kitchen + Bar.  I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant for the Houston Food Blogger Collective monthly dinner.  Here are my thoughts: Location and Setup: Hotel Derek is one of Houston's premiere boutique hotels located in the heart of the Galleria.  The front restaurant has had many lives as the hotel has tried to determine what fit best for their guests!  The current version is Revolve Kitchen + Bar which focuses on high end food in a relaxed setting.  The name Revolve comes [...]

Down House Brunch

Alert the masses, this is a new brunch post!!!  When I started this blog I naively thought people would know this blog was not just dedicated to brunch, BUT I realize now, that new brunch spots are what my readers expect, so I shall oblige!  A few weeks back I headed to Down House in the Heights for a Saturday brunch with my sister.  Down House has been on every best of list you can think of and thus ended up on my "places to try list."  Once I heard that Joe Biden swung by there while in town a [...]

Four Seasons Spa Houston

The Four Seasons is one of Houston's premiere hotels located near all the downtown happenings of the Toyota Center, House of Blues and Green Street.  As of late, there is a lot of construction in this area. From new hotels like the Marriott set to have a Texas shaped lazy river, to street upgrades and remodels like the one at the Four Seasons.  I was invited out along with my Houston Food Blogger Collective friends to visit the new upgraded spa and to check out the spa menu! While waiting at the lobby bar, the bartender told me that the [...]
