Time for Fall: Sweet Potato Muffins Recipe

When I am asked that cliche question, "Can you cook?" I usually respond affirmatively, but note that I am even better at making reservations *hair flip*.  Even though someone else doing the cooking is ideal, this foodie actually can cook... when I feel like it!  Since starting this blog, I have intended to add my at home foodie adventures to the mix, and the holiday season is as good of time as ever. Here is my Sweet Potato Muffin Recipe! For me fall means sweet potato season NOT pumpkin season.  My favorite stores are on the pumpkin bandwagon, so I have [...]

National Food Days List

Since I have been blogging, it seems like EVERY week I am alerted to some National Food Day. My first question was, what greedy person created these days? From my wikipedia browsing research, a wide variety of people have the "authority" to select a day for their preferred food. To my surprise, Presidents of our great country are behind a few for these days. For National Ice Cream Day, Ronald Reagan made a proclamation where he labels Ice Cream nutritious and wholesome therefore worthy adoration on the third Sunday of July.  Oh, I agree Mr. President. For other days, some random organization [...]

Foodie Problems

I will be the first to admit, most of these are first world problems! But as I was thinking about the life of a foodie, I could not help but think it is not all glamour and free dinners.  Here are the "problems" I came up with and I thought I would share, ha! Pondering about world problems. 1)I try to keep it positive for the most part on my blog.  The idea is that you can come here for places I recommend, not places I hate. (Check out my Zomato account for the whole gamut!)  Now while I [...]

Diner En Blanc Tips & Review

This past Sunday marked Houston's Inaugural Diner En Blanc.  Despite my previous snarky post, I actually had a good time! I am already planning for next year's event and eyeing traveling to another location for the event, like Miami, New Orleans or better yet Paris where it all started.  Here is how it all went. Friday, I picked up my rented tables (more on that mistake later) and coordinated with a friend who picked up rented chairs for us.  Leading up to the event, everyone was concerned that it would rain and this elegant event would essentially become a white t-shirt [...]

Diner En Blanc: The Preparations

So last summer while stalking the Instagram pages of the Blood Sweat and Heels cast, I saw a pop up dinner event that several of them attended. Everyone was dressed in fabulous all white outfits. They brought their own food, alcohol, and table decorations. I was immediately smitten with this idea.  I absolutely love experiences that are centered around food or meals with friends.  I just figured I would have to make a trip to NYC to partake.  Welp after browsing on Zagat one afternoon, I found out that someone deemed Houston worthy enough to host, what is actually called Diner [...]

Finding Great Local Restaurants

Surprisingly to some, Houston is really home to great restaurants. Our restaurant landscape is constantly changing so there are always some new critically acclaimed restaurant to try. Here is how I try to stay in the know… Blogs I do not think you can be a blogger without reading other blogs. My favorites are the national ones like Zagat Houston and Houston Eater. I am also on Zagat’s email list. They are not a frequent emailers, but when they do send emails it’s full of great suggestions about new or unique restaurants in Houston. My level of excitement when I [...]

Starting a Supper Club/ Foodie Group

My foodie group :) Anyone who loves to eat out like me needs to be a member of a supper club or a foodie group! Mine started organically during Houston's Restaurant Week in 2013.  A few co-workers and I went to dinner for one of the lady's birthday.  We had so much fun we decided to make it a monthly thing. Here is how it works for us: 1) Reservations are a must, use Open Table It just makes life easier trust me.  Many of the restaurants we venture to prefer reservations for one, and it means there [...]
