Houston Reviews

Back at Harold’s in the Heights

Exciting news in the Black Girls Who Brunch world!  I am starting a new series featuring some great local spots in Houston ahead of the Super Bowl.  My hope is that visitors to Houston go beyond franchise restaurants and see some of the great local restaurants that Houston has to offer.  To make this even more fun, I have linked up with a local producer Que to create vlogs in support!  We started this new series at Harold's in the Heights!  You may recall my brunch visit there awhile back, but this time I stopped by to try their new fall [...]

Potluck Time: Banana Trifle

I love to start a post with a somewhat relevant story, so here it goes!  When I graduated law school I entered into the suckiest legal market in recent history.  With little experience I was relegated to the document review world or as I called it, the land of the unwanted attorney.  Basically, the work was super boring and simple enough that a trained monkey could do it.  Then the jobs were temporary with no benefits.  When I tell you it was THE worst.  As you can imagine, we tried to make the best of it.  On one project, everyone [...]

My Served Meals

Can I talk about black girl magic a little before I get into this post? It is somewhat relevant here I promise.  Today our nation woke up to a new President elect.  It shakes me to my core to think President Barack Obama will be followed by a candidate who ran on fear and bigotry.  I'll save you my legal and historic rant on that for another time and venue.  Despite all that I believe went wrong with this election, when I scanned the exit poll returns  I was SO proud to see how black women voted.  We are not [...]

Thanksgiving at Fleming’s

Has anyone else noticed the extreme rush to get to Christmas this year? I saw full out Christmas decorations before Halloween!  It such a pity too because Thanksgiving is a great holiday especially for the foodies!  The last few years my mother has conned me into cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the rest of the family.  That process takes a lot out of you! For those looking for additional options that do not involve slaving away in the kitchen, Flemings Steakhouse will have all of their locations open on Thanksgiving Day offering a four course meal.  Plus, all the wine will [...]

Aloft Downtown Houston

On a rare occasion, this food blogger life allows me access to some pretty cool things before the general public gets a chance to view it.  In these instances I of course have to share all of the details with my BGWB friends!   If you have paid attention, Houston's downtown is brimming with new hotels and developments ahead of the Superbowl.  The Aloft Downtown is part of that new boom.  Unlike many of the other spots though, this one features a rooftop bar and pool which will be open to the public!  This is not your typical foodie spot, [...]

Bowl and Barrel

I am right in the midst of a marathon of food blogger events!  It's all fun and games until you have 15 blog posts to share.  Bear with me while I power through the backlog.   So, one of my more unique events was a trip to Bowl and Barrel in City Centre.  This high end bowling alley caters to the foodie who wants to partake in some while eating good food.  I had the pleasure of visiting Bowl and Barrel with my foodie friends from Houston Food Blogger Collective! Location I would not be real if I did not [...]

Houston Margarita Fest 2016

It is time for Houston's 5th annual Margarita Fest!  The event is set for November 5th from 12pm-10pm at Sam Houston Park.   Attendees will get to sample 27 margarita flavors plus various cuisines like barbecue and of course Mexican food.  On top of the margaritas and food, there will be live entertainment including DJ Mannie Fresh (throwback!).  The event also features a best margarita competition and best salsa dancing competition.  So there will be plenty to do for the 21 and over crowd. For those ready to get their drink on at this festival, tickets are already on sale [...]

Peli Peli Kitchen

A couple months back I attended a watch party to cheer on the Houston restauranters behind the Peli Peli concept as they competed on CNBC's Restaurant Startup.  Using the Shark Tank format, contestants compete for an investment to start a new restaurant.   During the show, the team presented a fast casual option to their widely successful Peli Peli restaurant.   The team won the competition and began preparing to open their new concept, Peli Peli Kitchen!  In preparation they also hosted a pop up kitchen earlier this summer which I attended and thoroughly enjoyed.  Now as they open the first Peli Peli [...]

Shake Shack is HERE!

Guess what guys, Shake Shack is here! Shake Shack is here!!!  Well, almost! This past weekend Shake Shack hosted a pop up at Pass and Provisions  to get Houstonians excited about the new addition to the Houston burger scene.  In a few weeks, Shake Shack will take up residence in the newly remodeled Saks 5th Avenue wing in the Galleria.   I got a chance to stop by the pop up last weekend and here are my thoughts. The Food: The menu was a "give them a small taste" type of menu with only a few options.  For example they did not [...]

Diner En Blanc 2016

Yesterday, I attended Houston's Diner En Blanc 2016.  Just like last year, I complained all the way up until the event, but once the tables were sat and the napkin wave began I was again in love with this event!Someone is probably thinking, DANG she's writing about that event again?! I apologize in advance, but for whatever reason my views tell me that people love reading about Diner En Blanc SO I am just here to give the people what they want :).  Here is my event run down! My HFBC friends and I at the event! Table Decorations: If [...]
