Dinner at Mastro’s

I tried my best to leave all of my 2017 dining experiences in 2017, but I have just one more to share.  I rounded out the holiday season with a stop over to the brand new Mastro's Steakhouse!  Owner Tilman Fertitta finally brought the nationally renowned Mastro's brand to Houston to anchor his new Post Oak mixed use space.  Here are all of the details of Dinner at Mastro's! The Setup and Location The Post Oak luxury mixed use space is set to open in March 2018, but we got a bit of a tease with the opening of Mastro's [...]

Low-key Houston Wine Bars

Cues that monotonous "low-key" song from the Insecure soundtrack that I seem to love.  For a host of reasons many of us are drawn to low-key spots.  Maybe it's a first date and you want less pressure.  Or maybe, it is a night out with girlfriends and low-key means no makeup or heels.  Another good reason, you want to chill in a dark corner by your lonesome!  Whatever reason draws you to a low-key wine bar, this list of Low-Key Houston Wine Bars is for you! Oporto Wine Cafe Their website describes Oporto as a "boutique" spot and I would call [...]

Sunday Funday at Moxie’s Grill and Bar

So I went to Moxie's this weekend because I am a follower.  Yes, I follow the crowd to new spots so I can report back all of the TEA to you all.  So Moxie's vibe reminds me of college!  Hear me out!  The year was 2008, I was a senior and college and really thought I was ALL the way grown.  *Cackles thinking about how wrong I was back then*  My "grown" self LOVED a spot called Houlihan's.  It seemed fancy compared to the Chili's in our small college town.  Part of the fancy came from the $20 entree price-point.  [...]

Best Houston Burger Spots

Last Friday I was leaving work and craving a burger.  As I debated, I realized there were WAY too many burger spots in Houston to pick from.  I touched on this a bit before in my Houston Foodie Guide, but figured that my favorite burgers deserved their own blog post.  Also, it seems that my readers LOVE lists, so I am working to create a few more.  So here it is folks, the Black Girls Who Brunch's list of Best Houston Burger Spots.  Before you bash me for skipping  a place, these are all places that I have personally tried.  It [...]

A Feast at Bacon Bros!

I made a rare appearance in suburban Houston just for a food tasting! If you tell me a restaurant focuses on bacon and other pork items?? I am willing to make the drive and let me just tell you Bacon Bros was totally worth it!  Starting in South Carolina, local entrepreneur Travis Cook brought the first out of state imprint to the Houston area!  While it stays true to the original, this farm fresh restaurant also pays homage to local flavors.  For all the details read on about a feast at Bacon Bros! The Location and Setup Bacon Bros is located in [...]

Ramen Tatsu Ya

We are all friends here so I can be honest with you.   For the longest time, if you mentioned "ramen" to me my mind instantly went back to that sodium filled childhood favorite.   It was the only thing my parents let me "cook" when they were not home!  Well with age, I learned that the real ramen, a Japanese favorite is NOTHING like that junk I ate as a kid!  This week, I had the pleasure of trying out the real deal at Ramen Tatsu-ya!  Catch all of the fun below. The Setup and Location Ramen Tatsu Ya, is located [...]

Susie Cakes

I cannot recall the last time I attended an event and had SO much fun that I rushed home to write a blog post to share with you all!  Last night, I had the pleasure of visiting the soon to open, Susie Cakes Bakery in Rice Village for a tasting.  If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I LOVE cakes and consider myself an amateur baker.   So I obviously jumped at the opportunity to go behind the curtain at a real bakery.   Then they added wine too? It was a full blown party!  To live vicariously through me, [...]
