Week 1: Houston Restaurant Weeks!

August is the month where food bloggers like myself run around like crazy people trying to eat at ALL the good restaurants during Houston Restaurant Weeks for the low.  Add in that a portion of my meal purchase goes to charity?  Yeah I'm in there like swimwear.   For those who do not know, each August Houston's premiere restaurants participate in Houston Restaurants Weeks.  They offer two to three course meals during brunch, lunch, or dinner for $20-45 bucks!  It is the BEST time to try that restaurant that may set you back a few coins. So I being the [...]

Soufflés at Rise No. 2

When my friend from college hits me up to schedule a dinner, I instantly get excited! She is guaranteed to suggest a restaurant that has been on my radar, but I just have not had anyone to go with!  On this occasion she immediately suggested Rise No. 2, the soufflé focused restaurant.  I was ALL in to stop over at the Galleria located restaurant to indulge on some soufflés.   So it is fitting that this post is ALL about Soufflés at Rise No. 2! The Setup Rise No 2 is located in the BLVD place in the Galleria area. Outside they [...]

Pei Wei $5 Lunch Menu

Last week, I stopped over at Pei Wei with a group of blogger friends to sample their new $5 lunch menu.  Let me start with this, I am not a huge fan of Chinese food.  That's not to say that I do not like it, it's just that when I am craving a certain cuisine, Asian food is rarely one of them.  So I went to Pei Wei, the Chinese fast casual, for this lunch with moderate expectations.  Trust me when I say, I was blown away!  The Pei Wei $5 Lunch Menu, packs quality in with value and flavor! [...]

Whys Girls Cupcake Wars Fundraiser

So after slaying at the Brunch and Slay event, I hightailed it across town for another great event!  A blogger friend of mine wears many hats.  Karissa works full time, manages to run a pretty awesome travel blog and still finds time to have a non-profit Whys Girls!  Last Saturday I attended the Whys Girls Cupcake Wars Fundraiser, an event that showcased 12 cupcake bakers plus went to a good cause! More about Whys Girls Whys Girls aims to equip local Houston girls with knowledge and wisdom so that they may succeed beyond the classroom.  How do you do that you [...]

The Caddy Shack

I am back with another review of a Houston spot!   Before heading to New Orleans for Essence Fest, a group of my Houston Food Blogger Collective friends and I headed to the Caddy Shack on Washington to enjoy a media tasting of their menu items.  Here are the highlights! Setup and Location You have probably passed the Caddy Shack before and may not have noticed it.  The Caddy Shack is located right in the thick of things on Washington across from B&B Butchers.  It's a smaller non assuming building, with the name Caddy Shack emblazoned on the front of the [...]

Birthday Dinner at Yauatcha

Remember when I dropped that list of Houston Birthday dinner spots? For the most part I had dined at all of the places on the list except Yauatcha, the new dim sum restaurant in the Houston Galleria.  As I hinted to in that post, I decided to head to Michelin rated Yauatcha for a fun birthday celebration with my foodie group!  Keep reading for all of the details of my Birthday Dinner at Yauatcha! The Location and Setup A little bit ago, the Houston Galleria built a new building right smack dab in the middle of the parking lot across [...]

Seaside Poke

Poke, (pronounced po-kay) is all the rage and I for one am all about a food trend!  For the most part, high end restaurants have held the market on the poke trend which means it can be a budget buster.  Well to my budget conscious foodies, a new option poke bowl option, Seaside Poke just opened in EADO.  Check out my experience below! The Setup and Location Located in EADO next door to Chapman and Kirby, Seaside Poke is getting in game early.  In a matter of months that whole area will be filled with more restaurants, bars and businesses. Part [...]

Chapman and Kirby

A few weeks back it seemed like 90% of my non-blogger snapchat friends were all at some new spot called Chapman and Kirby.  It was packed, the party looked funny and somehow my invite was lost in the mail!  I did some investigation and learned that Chapman and Kirby was a new bar in Houston's EADO (East Downtown).  I made a note to come to visit at my next opportunity and report back here for others who were late like me! The Setup/Location Chapman and Kirby is anchoring the revitalization of East Downtown a former industrial area.  If you have [...]

Crumbville, TX

The corner of Emancipation Avenue and Elgin is booming y'all!  First, local leaders rightfully ditched the street name Dowling (named after a Confederate solider) and renamed it the more progressive name Emancipation Avenue. Yay for change!  Then, the Emancipation Park renovations were completed just in time for this year's Juneteenth celebrations! I have not toured it yet, but the pictures look amazing! All of these things are exciting and have brought national media attention to Houston's Historic Third Ward.   What I hope though, are some of the cool business operating in this area get some attention too.  I have [...]

Velvet Taco

Back with a taco post ahead of Taco Tuesday so you can prepare accordingly! Velvet Taco has been on my "need to try" list for a long time, but I tend to circle back to places I like such as Torchy's rather than trying something new.   A couple of Fridays ago I was not in the mood to fight the Rice Village traffic, so that meant giving Velvet Taco a try.  I grabbed a co-worker and we headed out for our first trip to the popular taco spot, Velvet Taco! The Setup/Location Taco Heaven! Velvet Taco is [...]
