Bovine & Barley Review

I am so behind on updating my blog with my foodie adventures! My goal is to catch up over the holiday break, so bear with me as I post some things from awhile back.  Several months ago I attended a Houston Food Blogger Collective board meeting at downtown's Bovine & Barley restaurant/bar.  We had the opportunity to sample Bovine & Barley's new brunch menu for dinner and as you know this girl loves brunch! Setup/Location-  Bovine & Barley is off of Main street downtown. When I was in college Main street was briefly the Houston hotspot. From the looks of it [...]

Brunch at Black & White

Last weekend I served as host for my friend who was in town from Kansas City. Before arriving, she told me, "Erika I just want to eat at cool places that I cannot get at home."  And eat we did!  While looking for a Saturday brunch spot to take her to, I caught a picture of Black & White's chicken and waffle's brunch option on Instagram and was immediately sold. Off to Black & White Restaurant we went. The Setup: Black and white are my signature wardrobe colors because you really cannot go wrong with them! Once I learned that the Heights [...]

Check Me Out on Stay.Com!

The good folks over at Stay.Com asked me to create a list of my favorite Houston Brunches for tourists looking for local haunts in my hometown.  The list, entitled "Out for Brunch in Houston," is similar to my own favorite Houston Brunch list that I made earlier this year with a few new additions!  I made sure to include places that were created right here in Houston like Max's Wine Dive.  Max's is now all over the country, but the original is right here on Washington.  Also, I had to add our quintessential Houston breakfast spot, the Breakfast Klub.  Standing [...]

Brunch at Benjy’s

I am back on my brunch kick! A beautiful sunny day in Houston meant I needed to be on someone's patio for a much needed Sunday Funday brunch! My sister, forever with me on these foodie adventures, selected Benjy's in Rice Village.   For the sake of the blog, I am always down for a new brunch spot and Benjy's is generally ranked as a top pick for Houston brunches.  Somehow this was my first time stopping over at Benjy's for brunch.   I had a great experience so I am sure it will not be my last. No filter just sun! [...]

Punk’s Simple Southern Food

I appreciate brunch, and the many different types of brunch spots that are available here in Houston.  You need goto places for the days that you are feeling fancy and want to dress the part.  You also have to keep a list of places where sweats, no makeup and hair in a bun will not be a faux pas.   A few weeks back, after spending the night turning off weather alerts for an impending flood, my friend and I were in dire need of one of those simple laid back brunch spots.  We decided on Punk's Simple Southern Food.  As a [...]

Quick Post: Tout Suite

As a writer/blogger I make note of cute coffee shops that are great work spaces for the days that I just want to get out of the house. Tout Suite was next up on my list of places to try.  I stopped by during the brunch/lunch hour on a Saturday for a snack and a little writing time.  I pulled up the location via Apple Maps, but it sent me to a Jail/Bail Bondsman a few blocks up on Commerce. I thought it was an odd location for a coffee shop, but I confidently hopped out of my car as [...]

Rustic Oak Gastro Pub and Wine

I have failed you all and not stayed true to the name of this blog! I checked my "Brunch" category and realized I had not added a brunch post in months.  I rectified that problem this past weekend with a trip to Rustic Oak Gastro Pub and Wine with my foodie group friends.  Rustic Oak is a quaint restaurant which serves a brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays.  It is located right off of Richmond and 59, in Montrose.  We stopped by for a Sunday brunch and overall had a great time. The Setup: This place is situated in a house and I [...]

Black Girls Who Brunch AND Blog

Whew last weekend was exhausting! Sam Smith concert, an 80s vs 90s party and then brunch with fellow bloggers! This was all before noon on Saturday.  If my schedule was not crazy enough, a flat tire meant I had to roll up to brunch in Uptown Park sporting my donut tire.  Despite the weekend craziness, it was great to gather with a group of fellow bloggers to enjoy a delicious brunch and excellent conversation. Renia, the creator of Gristle and Gossip suggested that several black food bloggers meet for brunch during the Houston Restaurant Weeks month.  Renia picked the french [...]

Celebratory Brunch!

I met up with a group of high school friends to celebrate a few things.  First, my good friend got engaged in Europe a few weeks ago and this was our first chance to see her in person to congratulate her.  Second my other good friend just completed her degree.  We are so very proud of her and it deserved a good brunch to celebrate.  Then finally, as you can imagine, I surround myself with fellow foodies so we were also celebrating the first Sunday of Houston restaurant weeks :) This year there are not too many brunch options on the [...]
