International Waffle Day – Grand Lux

I live for a food holiday because I am GREAT at celebrating those! This Saturday (March 25th) happens to be International Waffle Day and as you can imagine a brunch connoisseur like myself is excited.  In preparation for Saturday's "holiday",  Grand Lux invited me out to try their chicken and waffle dish assuring me that it rivaled the best in the city.  Check out my review below! Location If you have followed me for awhile you know that I am a self admitted snob who typically frequents local spots.  I will turn my nose up with a quickness at a franchise [...]

Crawl for the Culture

This St. Patrick's day weekend I decided to hop in a time machine and go back to being twenty-one. You know the period of your life where calories do not count, bedtimes do not exist and hangovers are what older folks complain about. Who did I think I was?! At the very least I have fun stories to share with you. Since Friday marked St. Patrick's day and I decided I was twenty-one again, that meant I had to hit the streets!  After a crazy fun night in midtown, I woke up to do it all over again with the Crawl for [...]

The Raven Grill Brunch

My friends introduce me as the girl who has a blog called "Black Girls Who Brunch."  Then they add, "but she NEVER posts about brunch though!"  I of course hit 'em with a serious side-eye and explain that a black girl who brunches is multi-faceted!  I feel the need to say this at the start of every brunch post because I hate to see the "FINALLY" comments from my friends.  So yes, I say all of this to say, I found a new brunch spot that I must share with you guys! Last week, my super talented cousin Kamilah came to [...]

Brunch at Kitchen 713

Hey friends! It's been almost two weeks since Super Bowl and I am honestly still recovering from it! Super Bowl weekend was packed full of fun events and great foodie experiences.  I am still playing catch up, but of course it is time to share all the good stuff with you all.  First, let's start with a brunch because that's what gets most of y'all to stop by here right?? Anywho, with my friends in town a brunch was a must!  We stopped at the new Kitchen 713 for a great Sunday Brunch.  Check out my thoughts below! The Move: [...]

Black Girls Who Brunch: Favorite Houston Brunches

I wrote my first "favorite Houston brunches" way back in May 2015 as one of my first posts on this website.  So much has changed since then and as you can imagine, I have visited a lot more Houston brunch spots.  So now I am back with an update to the list, just in time for the influx of Super Bowl visitors :). Since I am loyal many of the spots are the same since the last list, but I had to add some new favorites.  Just like last time, I am not claiming these are the BEST in Houston.  These [...]

The Brunch Off- Taste of the NFL

Right before Christmas, I attended a super fun event at Third Coast Houston!  The event, "The Brunch Off"  was a preview to the Taste of the NFL event which is set to be hosted during Super Bowl week here in Houston.  Here are few details about the preview event plus the upcoming Taste of the NFL. The Brunch Off Event As the Texans took on the Jacksonville Jaguars, our Brunch Off featured chefs from Houston and Jacksonville offering up their best brunch dishes for us to dine on while watching the game!  So as a Houstonian I waltzed in there [...]

Peli Peli Kitchen

A couple months back I attended a watch party to cheer on the Houston restauranters behind the Peli Peli concept as they competed on CNBC's Restaurant Startup.  Using the Shark Tank format, contestants compete for an investment to start a new restaurant.   During the show, the team presented a fast casual option to their widely successful Peli Peli restaurant.   The team won the competition and began preparing to open their new concept, Peli Peli Kitchen!  In preparation they also hosted a pop up kitchen earlier this summer which I attended and thoroughly enjoyed.  Now as they open the first Peli Peli [...]

The Morning After Brunch Event Review

I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Morning After Brunch event hosted by Houston Press!  This event allowed attendees to sample the top brunch spots in the city in one venue.  Talk about convenient!  I scored VIP tickets which allowed me early entry.  With no lines I meandered through the different booths, took great pictures and decided on my favoritea, all before the general admission folks entered.  The line curved around the parking lot and once they opened the flood gates, I kicked back in the VIP section.   In short, invest in VIP tickets. The epitome of [...]

The Honeymoon Cafe

I finally got to catch up with my original foodie crew for a brunch at the Honeymoon Cafe! I love hanging with these ladies because it is guaranteed to involve great conversation about everything under the sun and of course great food.  There are few people who match my love of eating out, but these ladies do! Enough about my crew though, on this day we had an early birthday celebration for my friend Adrienne.  Birthday girl gets to pick the restaurant and she opted for Honeymoon Cafe for an afternoon brunch.  This was all of our first time visiting [...]

Fleming’s Sonoma Sunday Brunch

Time for another brunch post! The staff of Flemings invited me to try their Sonoma Sunday brunch at the Woodlands location. Per usual, I brought my sister along for the ride!  Check out our experience below! Location: I rail on the Houston suburbs but I shall give credit where credit is due, the Woodlands has one of the better food scenes in the Houston area. One of my complaints about the Woodlands is the distance, goodness it is far!  Then when I get there I do a Mary Tyler Moore spin and hat toss!  It's beautiful! There are even waterways [...]
