The Cochon555 14 city tour is making its way back to Houston this month for an exciting food competition. As the name implies this event will feature 5 chefs, 5 pigs and 5 wine makers. At the heart of the event is charity. Cochon555 started in 2008 as a means to raise money for family farmers who are raising heritage breed pigs. As such, the event focuses on old ole’ pork! Other than charity, the other major component is the competition where five local chefs each roast a whole heritage breed pig and prepare a 6-dish menu to pair with the main dish. There will of course be a winner! If that was not enough, Cochon555 also includes a Somm Smackdown where sommeliers will compete for the best pig and wine pairing. So for those who were not keeping track this event will feature tons of food, wine, drinks and fun competitions!
Cochon555 will be held Sunday, May 21st from 5pm-7:30pm at Hughes Manor (formerly Hughes Hanger) on Washington.
Tickets for Cochon555 are already on sale and can be purchased here. If you are feeling fancy, go ahead and upgrade your life with the VIP tickets. VIP attendees will arrive at 4pm, an hour before general admission, and receive exclusive sommelier and cocktail tastings. I will note that Cochon555 is pricier than some of the similar foodie events around town, BUT as in all things in life, you get what you pay for. Just a foodie tip, events with a higher price point tend to have shorter lines and higher quality food and drink. One glance at photos and videos from previous Cochon555 events and you see this one definitely fits the bill.
Of course I have an exciting giveaway for this event! I am giving away two general admission tickets to one lucky Black Girls Who Brunch reader. The giveaway rules are the same as always!
