I live for a food holiday because I am GREAT at celebrating those! This Saturday (March 25th) happens to be International Waffle Day and as you can imagine a brunch connoisseur like myself is excited. In preparation for Saturday’s “holiday”, Grand Lux invited me out to try their chicken and waffle dish assuring me that it rivaled the best in the city. Check out my review below!
If you have followed me for awhile you know that I am a self admitted snob who typically frequents local spots. I will turn my nose up with a quickness at a franchise spot, BUT Grand Lux is not your typical franchise. If anything it is franchise done right with good quality food and drinks. My visit this past weekend solidified that for me.
The Houston location is in the heart of the Galleria area. I am old enough to remember when that corner used to be occupied by FAO Schwarz! Anyone else remember that? Anywho, with this prime location Grand Lux drives in the locals and of course out of towners staying in Galleria area hotels. Another high point, unlike some of my favorite local haunts, they have PLENTY of parking especially for an early brunch.
Yes a mimosa is great, but I appreciate any restaurant that offers a variety of brunch cocktails! At Grand Lux you can order a broader variety including Bellinis and Bloody Mary drinks. I ordered a Sparkling Spanish Rose, a proseco and sangria based cocktail. A good brunch cocktail should be light because it is still morning or mid afternoon! The Rose drink was just that. It is as light as a mimosa, but a different taste with the strawberry flavor. Perfection!
Like I said, Grand Lux invited me out to try the chicken and waffles, but I had to peak at the menu for my next visit! Grand Lux offers most of your traditional brunch dishes like french toast, pancakes, omelettes and breakfast sandwiches. This also makes it more appealing because the menu offers something for everyone.
The dish includes fried chicken wings piled to the sky on top of a Belgian Waffle. Usually it comes with pecans, but I skipped those. My wonderful waitress brought me maple syrup in addition to the maple butter that comes with the dish. The maple butter is good, I just like don’t like change when it comes to my waffles! Flavor wise, I really loved this dish. The waffle was soft, which is my preference and the chicken is seasoned well and crunchy. With them being tenders, you can eat them together easily, but I’m weird and don’t like mixing my food LOL. OH and it’s so much chicken that there is enough to take home for a snack #winning!
If you are new to Grand Lux’s brunch, this Saturday is a great time to stop by in celebration of International Waffle day! Like I said, Grand Lux sure shut me up about national restaurants! The food and drinks were really good, plus all of the servers were nice and friendly. Now I see why all of y’alls cousins are there every weekend, but I’ll be joining them from here on out!
