I have been hitting up weekly happy hours lately as if I do not have a job to go to at 8am! I would say “don’t be like me,” but I am providing you with a list of places so you can be JUST like me *evil grin.* Creating a whole blog post for a happy hour is not too fun, so I waited till I accumulated several that I liked and created a new list. Unlike my previous list, this one is not comprised of my “favorites” although many of the potential to become just that! This list, is just a list of new Houston happy hours that are worth noting!
I combed the menu looking for the “happy hour section” and I did not see one. Despite not having a dedicated happy hour menu, they definitely pull a happy hour crowd, so it is worth noting. With a large selection of wines, 13 Celsius is sure to impress the wino friend in your crew. If you are not much for wine, I still would say their snacks are a reason to stop by too. They hand slice meats and cheeses right in front of you. If that was not enough, they offer THE most amazing s’mores dessert. Your waiter will bring a mini fire pit to your table for you to roast your own marshmallows. I was definitely sold after that.
When you think of Local Foods you probably think locally sourced sandwich shop. Well think beyond that because they are coming at you with decently stocked bar and happy hour deals everyday from 4-7pm. The deals include $5 glasses of wine and beer for $2.50. For the food side, you can grab appetizers and pizzas for $6.
I just visited this spot last week with my HFBC friends to get a sampling of their happy hour menu! Hosted on Monday-Friday from 3-7pm, guests can feast on several items including chips and queso and southwest eggrolls for just $5. I tried both of those items and they are really a step above your typical bar items. Also consider picking up a pizza too! There are also drink specials including the frozen lemonade which I thoroughly enjoyed during my visit. The other plus here is the indoor/outdoor concept which is reminiscent of many other beer gardens popping up around town.
Live Oak Houston
Housed in the old Sugar Hill, Live Oak is offering more than it’s predecessor did with an extensive menu. From Tuesday-Friday guests can enjoy Happy Hour deals from 5-9pm. Plus on Tuesdays, they are serving up Taco Tuesday deals with $1 tacos! Unlike some other spots on this list, Live Oak is more likely to have a good crowd and good music.
The new location of Beavers just down from the Galleria is a super cute venue with a campy backyard feel. I enjoyed the food and drinks during their soft opening back in December. According to Instagram, they are serving up some happy hour deals as well. Based on my experience, I would say it’s worth the stop.
The General Public
When I stopped over here one Friday night, it was pretty empty. Their sister concept Bowl and Barrel was jumping though. If you want a more social scene, I would say head over there. If you like the quieter happy hour setup occasionally like myself, I think the General Public is a great place to go. The other draw here are the drinks which are made with fresh ingredients right in front of you.
I stopped over here with a girlfriend on a super rainy Friday night and it was PACKED. Not the most diverse crowd, but a crowd none the less. Their happy hour menu though? Excellent! Sunday through Friday from 3pm-6pm guests can enjoy $8 pizzas, $10 chef boards and $4 glasses of wine. The best deal though is the bottle and board for $20 which is perfect for sharing with a group.
My friend Renia from Gristle and Gossip suggested Churrascos for happy hour and after I saw the menu I told her she’s been holding out on me! We stopped over here on a Monday so again, not really a crowd if that is what you are looking for. What you will find though is some delicious food and drinks priced to move!
To know me is to know that I am a HUGE fan of the River Oaks District and iPic theaters. Unfortunately iPic and my wallet do not always get along, SO some happy hour pricing is always welcomed.
Located right on Washington, Urban Eats is a quick after work jaunt for Downtown workers. Their happy hour runs Monday-Friday from 3-6pm offering great deals on their AMAZING monkey bread, sliders and drinks. They even offer a wine or beer flight which comes paired with house cheese and salami. You really cannot beat that!
51fifteen at Saks
I wrote a long post on this before, but I want to add it here in case you forgot! Yes, fancy schmancy Saks offers up a happy hour menu with really good pricing. Drinks and appetizers are just $7 bucks. Please don’t think the pricing is indicative of poorly put together food, because it isn’t! In fact, these were some of the best happy hour priced appetizers I had in awhile! For the drinks, they pack quite a punch for the price point so I say win win here.
Just a note here, happy hour is as much about the crowd as it is about the food and drink specials. I noted the type of crowd you can expect, but for the most part I added places to this list based on the food and drinks. Crowds are fickle, but good food usually is consistent! Before you go, be sure to share with me your favorite Houston happy hours! I am always looking for new spots.
