International Waffle Day – Grand Lux

I live for a food holiday because I am GREAT at celebrating those! This Saturday (March 25th) happens to be International Waffle Day and as you can imagine a brunch connoisseur like myself is excited.  In preparation for Saturday's "holiday",  Grand Lux invited me out to try their chicken and waffle dish assuring me that it rivaled the best in the city.  Check out my review below! Location If you have followed me for awhile you know that I am a self admitted snob who typically frequents local spots.  I will turn my nose up with a quickness at a franchise [...]

Crawl for the Culture

This St. Patrick's day weekend I decided to hop in a time machine and go back to being twenty-one. You know the period of your life where calories do not count, bedtimes do not exist and hangovers are what older folks complain about. Who did I think I was?! At the very least I have fun stories to share with you. Since Friday marked St. Patrick's day and I decided I was twenty-one again, that meant I had to hit the streets!  After a crazy fun night in midtown, I woke up to do it all over again with the Crawl for [...]

March Madness at Russo’s Pizzeria!

It is officially MARCH MADNESS!!!  I have a fun deal from Russo's Pizzeria to share with you, but first lets talk sports! Did you make a bracket? Did your team make it to the big dance??  Can I just say, I LOVE March Madness.  During my college and law school years my school (Mizzou) was often a contender for the big tournament.  For me, there is not a college championship series more fun that basketball!  I was generally an avid watcher until a couple of  years ago when my school lost in the first round to a lower seed.  IT [...]

A few Houston Happy Hours

I have been hitting up weekly happy hours lately as if I do not have a job to go to at 8am!  I would say "don't be like me," but I am providing you with a list of places so you can be JUST like me *evil grin.*  Creating a whole blog post for a happy hour is not too fun, so I waited till I accumulated several that I liked and created a new list.  Unlike my previous list, this one is not comprised of my "favorites" although many of the potential to become just that!   This list, is [...]

Washington DC: The Food

As you probably can tell, when I travel I am eager to come back and share all of my experiences from the trip, especially the food!  Well, let me calm some expectations before you dive into this post.  My trip to D.C. was very short and mostly spent touring the monuments and museums.  Add in the fact that I had to account for finicky teen and tween appetites, my foodie experiences were fairly limited!  We ate breakfast at our hotel and grabbed typical franchise spots a few times. Somehow I managed to visit three spots that are worth sharing here [...]

The Raven Grill Brunch

My friends introduce me as the girl who has a blog called "Black Girls Who Brunch."  Then they add, "but she NEVER posts about brunch though!"  I of course hit 'em with a serious side-eye and explain that a black girl who brunches is multi-faceted!  I feel the need to say this at the start of every brunch post because I hate to see the "FINALLY" comments from my friends.  So yes, I say all of this to say, I found a new brunch spot that I must share with you guys! Last week, my super talented cousin Kamilah came to [...]

Grub Burger Bar Lighter Fare

Last week I stopped over to Grub Burger Bar for a tasting of some of their lighter fare! I have been to Grub Burger Bar many times before and somehow managed to never add it to my blog until now.  Do not take this slight as an indication that I do not like this spot, cause I do, so I was glad when they invited me out to for a tasting.  So this time, I am making sure that share ALL the fun details with you all. Location/Setup Grub Burger Bar is located in the heart of City Centre in [...]

Potente and Osso & Kristalla

Whenever I discuss Houston with people from the east coast or midwestern cities like Chicago, they pepper me with questions about our downtown and the fact that it's not really the hub of night time activity like their hometowns.  I share with them the sad story of what once was, the Main Street strip of clubs and bars which are now boarded up.  Then go on to how the crowd moved to areas like Washington and Midtown.  All while thinking how it's kinda sad that our downtown night life kinda sucks! Well guess what Houston, a revival is happening! Riding [...]

Weekend in Washington D.C.

I am back with more fun tidbits from my weekend in Washington D.C.  My weekend trip to D.C. centered around visiting the NMAAHC which I recapped in a previous post.  I really could have spent my whole weekend at the NMAAHC, but since we brought my two little cousins (12 and 13 years old) along I knew they had to see more than just the inside of the museum!  Maybe it’s the years of showing family around D.C., but somehow we finally managed to cram in most of the highlights in one short weekend *pats self on the back.*  I’ll highlight [...]
