On a rare occasion, this food blogger life allows me access to some pretty cool things before the general public gets a chance to view it.  In these instances I of course have to share all of the details with my BGWB friends!   If you have paid attention, Houston’s downtown is brimming with new hotels and developments ahead of the Superbowl.  The Aloft Downtown is part of that new boom.  Unlike many of the other spots though, this one features a rooftop bar and pool which will be open to the public!  This is not your typical foodie spot, yes but you guys know I love cool venues so this fits the bill.

The Building and Rooftop:

The gorgeous building has been around since the early 30s and was recently restored to fit the vibrant color palette of a typical Aloft hotel. They did keep a few of the original aspects though.   We had to take the stairs on our way back down and I was thrilled to discover the original staircases still intact.

Here is the best part, once you make your way to the top floor you are greeted by a large rooftop bar with a pool and great downtown views.  Ahhh I just love it!  Aloft hotels are known for their bright colors and this rooftop stayed true to that.  We all wanted to play Goldie Locks and sit in every chair to discover which is the best.  As you make your way to the edge of the rooftop, you can see views of Minute Maid Park and some of downtown’s prettiest buildings.

Drinks and Food:

One of the bartenders created a mango madness just for us to try.   She wouldn’t give us her secret, but it was a fabulous drink! We also got a peek at a few of the bites that guests will get to enjoy including shrimp cocktail in a cocktail glass, egg rolls and wings!

Overall:

In Houston we are always looking for the next hot spot to host a happy hour or just chill on a Friday night.   Aloft Rooftop bar will be open to the general public and I imagine it will be a popular spot soon enough!

Update:

I went back for the grand opening and thought I would share with you some pictures!  All of the food featured was provided by Phoenicia Speciality Foods.
