I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Morning After Brunch event hosted by Houston Press! This event allowed attendees to sample the top brunch spots in the city in one venue. Talk about convenient! I scored VIP tickets which allowed me early entry. With no lines I meandered through the different booths, took great pictures and decided on my favoritea, all before the general admission folks entered. The line curved around the parking lot and once they opened the flood gates, I kicked back in the VIP section. In short, invest in VIP tickets.
This was my third Houston Press’ hosted event, but I must say this was by far the best. Why you ask? One key reason, the drinks! Unlike the previous events, the drinks were included in the price! I imagine mimosas are far cheaper to serve at an event like this than a full bar with hard liquors. Regardless I certainly appreciated it! They even had a variety of juices for your mimosa if you were feeling fancy. There was also a bloody mary bar, but I cannot get with drinking tomato juice so I had to skip on that.
Again, here is where I saw the benefit of my early arrival! Some places ran out of food before the event was over! Thankfully I was able to try just about everything before that. Here are some of my favorites!
As you can see shrimp and grits and french toast were popular dishes! Max’s Wine Dive won the best brunch dish with their signature egg sandwich. Consider me a tad disappointed when I discovered that Max’s wasn’t serving their signature fried chicken or my favorite, french toast! I am not a fan of eggs, so I could not join in on the fun. Max’s definitley has great name recognition in the brunch world, plus they offered a dish that no one else had making it easier to stand out. I can see why others enjoyed it.
I must say this was my favorite Houston Press event so far! Finally I am obviously a brunch fan hence the title of this here website, so I went in expecting to love this event I did! The venue worked well, I sampled excellent food and received some bubbly in the process. THEN on Monday one of the vendors sent me an email informing me that I won their Mimosa Gift Basket! I expect this event to be back next year and I suggest you attend :).
