Yes, this is another review of a burger spot in Houston, but you are going to like it!  Houston has a lot of burger spots and will soon add national favorites, Hopdoddy and Shake Shack.  I am slowly eating my way through all of the local favorites and only blogging about the ones I really liked.  Trust, all of the places I eat do not make it on the blog or my social media accounts.  I am still sticking with the “only positive experiences make it to the blog” rule! Anywho, last week I had the pleasure of attending a Houston Food Bloggers Collective meeting at Jerry Built Burgers in Bellaire.

Location/Setup:

Similar to the Heights, once in Bellaire you instantly feel as though you are not in Houston anymore.  There are a lot of great restaurants in the area, but I just haven’t traveled there often.  Jerry’s is right off of West Holcombe, a major street in Bellaire.  As you pull up, you cannot miss the grand “built to suit” building with the outline of a cow on the side.   Once inside, you are met by a walk up counter where you order your food and then proceed to the large dining area and seat yourself.  There is a patio area too that was pretty full considering it was a cloudy day.  In terms of atmosphere, Jerry’s is definitely a family spot.  They even allow the kiddos to draw on the large chalkboard wall. That seemed to be a hit with the little ones I saw during my visit.

Food:

For the food, Jerry’s owners were gracious enough to let us order what we wanted and then brought out some things for us to try.   I ordered the Ernie’s Bacon Cheddar BBQ burger, because I cannot say no to bacon.  This burger comes with Ernie’s sauce which is their version of Thousand Island, bbq sauce, grilled onions, bacon and of course cheddar cheese. Now, since I’m on a mission to try every burger joint in Houston I’ve noticed a few distinctions. Some spots focus on seasoning the meat to where it can stand alone. An example of this would be Del Frisco’s Grille. While other locations bring the flavor from the toppings.  Jerry’s fell into the latter category so I didn’t nix any of the toppings, so I could get the flavor as it was intended by the creators.  With the sauces added, I really enjoyed the burger!  Plus their burger buns are made in store daily.  I’m a bread lover, so a soft bun gets me every time.  Finally, THE FRIES! Loved them.

I also tried a few of the salads, but the one that sticks out, the corn nut salad! Created by the owners mother, I bet you won’t find anything like this elsewhere!  Then there is a dessert counter with cookies and ice cream which adds to the kid friendly atmosphere.  I went with the plain jane, vanilla ice cream on a sugar cookie.  While everyone judged my boring dessert, let me tell you, it was BOMB!

Drinks:

They offered us a variety of milkshakes that looked pretty good. Shakes aren’t my thing, but the rest of the HFBC crew seemed to enjoy them.  I went with the freshly squeezed lemonade.  Also great and low on pulp which wins for me every time.  Jerry’s also has a pretty good selection of local beers like Saint Arnold’s and wines too.   I saw one my favorites, that cupcake wine! It’s one of my go-to Scandal watching wines.

Overall:  I liked Jerry’s and felt very welcomed by their staff and owners! They even gave us a parting gift, a bottle of steak sauce and a giftcard.  I will definitely be back :)
