Here is a short post about a recent trip I made to Black Walnut Cafe on Memorial!
Black Walnut Cafe has several locations in the Houston area. I have visited the Rice Village location, but on this day I stopped by the location right off of Memorial. I drive by this one pretty often and it is packed all day everyday! Black Walnut is a casual cafe setup. Once you walk in, you stand in line and order then proceed to a table of your choice. This setup works perfectly if you need a quick breakfast. On this day, I grabbed my friend from the airport and decided on Black Walnut for a quick bite to eat before we started our day. After ordering, we found a table immediately and our food was ready soon after that.
Drinks: While waiting in line I noticed the beautiful wine refrigerators that display many of the wine options Black Walnut has. Now I am no wino, but I think you would be hard pressed to find a similar casual dining restaurant with that many wine options. It even has a handy chart to help assist with pairings!
Food: I went with my go to, you guessed it, the french toast. The Black Walnut Cafe version is called the “Texas Cut Challah French Toast” with lemon zest and honey whipped butter. I am not too picky about my french toast. Black Walnut Cafe’s passed the Black Girls Who Brunch French Toast test. As long as it does not have too much egg batter on it, it is good to me! My friend ordered the Lobster Benedict. So yes, while Black Walnut Cafe is casual dining they do have menu options that are a step above typical casual spots. I nibbled on the lobster and it was pretty good!
Overall: Black Walnut Cafe has good food and a quick casual setup. I think that it does casual dining well, so on the days that this fits my needs I will be back by!
