The good folks over at Pie Five Pizza reached out to me to encourage me to try their local restaurants.  I”ll be honest, Pie Five was not on my list of top restaurants to try, matter fact I had never heard of it.  I did a little research and decided it was worth the try. This past weekend, I brought my sister along with the “adventure.”  First off, they really could not have a better location.  Right in the loop off of Yale Street in that uniquely suburban shopping center anchored by a Wal-Mart.

Everything about the outside facade said “I am a run of the mill franchise with mediocre food.”  Yes, I judged a book by its’ cover and walked in with my preconceived notions.  The set up is similar to Mod Pizza, which I reviewed here before.  Personal sized pizzas for under 10 bucks that are ready in about ten minutes.   There is a menu of preset pizzas and the ability to create your own. My sister went for the Barbecue Pizza and I created a basic pepperoni and sausage pizza.  I chose the Artisan thin crust and my sister ordered the pan.  They also offered gluten-free crust.  After the toppings were added, our pizzas were thrown into a Quiznos like conveyor belt oven for five minutes.  That oven must be set for 1,000 degrees because our pizzas came out perfectly cooked in five minutes.

One look at the pizza and I had to rethink my earlier judgments.  I mentally prepared for a cheap frozen pizza quality, but what I got was a pizza that looked pretty appetizing.  The staff suggested I add “Magic Dust” to my pizza.  Their own blend of Parmesan, Romano, and Italian Seasonings.  On the first bite, I knew the Magic Dust addition was a good decision.  The crust was seasoned and crispy.  The sausage and pepperoni were also good and given a flavor lift by the Magic Dust.  My sister devoured her Barbecue Pizza before I could grab a picture.  While licking her fingers, she noted that she will be back for that.

Everyone needs one of these kinds of places in their restaurant rolodex. This is the place you go when you need something good, quick and at a low price point.  I will definitely be back.
